Ivana Marija Vidovic translated into Croatian the verses written in 1876 in honor of Franjo Krezma in Verona

 | In 1876, young Croatian violinist Franjo Krežma (on the photo), then at the age of 14, had a series of three consecutive concerts at the Ristori Theatre in Verona, on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th December. The concerts have been announced by beautiful verses written by anonymous Italian author G.D. The verses have been translated into Croatian in 2018 by Ivana Marija Vidović, distinguished Croatian pianist, poetesse and writer. Franjo Krežma was a violin prodigy: he earned his diploma at the Conservatory of Vienna at the age of 13! He died very young, at the age of 19. |

 | Goran Končar started his international soloist career in 1982, undertaking guest tours in most European countries, the USA, Japan and Israel. In the period from 1984 to 1994 he was concert master of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, the Croatian Radio & Television Symphony Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic. He also performed in many concerts with eminent orchestras and conductors throughout the world. He is the recipient of the Music Life award in Moscow (1980) for the performance of the Concerto for the Violin and Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich, the first prize at the International Competition in Bratislava (1984) and other top acknowledgments.

 | Born and educated in Zagreb, Croatia, Ratimir Mocnaj enjoyed a long and successful career as a chemical engineer first in Germany, and then his second home, Canada. He was a deserving member of the AMCA Quebec (AMCA = Almae Matris Croaticae Alumni) in Canada, as well as of the CROWN (Croatian World Network), where he served as a moderator of the Croatian World Calendar web iste, initiated by Nenad Bach. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Ana, children, Mark (Maa), Christine (Sylvain), granddaughter Sophie, his step-granddaughter Elisabeth (Anthony), and many friends and extended family. |

 | "The Doll" and "Death of an Actor" - two popular plays written by Miro Gavran were published as two books in hardcover in Hindi in Jaipur, India. Publisher is Bodi Prakash. Both of these were translated into hindi by Saurabh Srivastava. Gavran's plays had performances all around India - from Mumbai to Puni and Hyderabad, Assam and Bangalore in the last 15 years. This is first time that his texts were published as books in India. |

 | Croatian chess player Ivan Šarić (27) won the European title for 2018 in Georgia, during the European Chess Championships organized in the city of Batumi. Along with the European title of Zvonko Kožul in 2006, this is the greatest success of Croatian chess. He won the title of Under 18 World Youth Chess Champion in 2008. He holds a notable victory over the world champion Magnus Carlsen, which he achieved at the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Norway. Kristian Krekovic's portraits exhibited in Sweden upon the initiative of Ljerka Galic

 | Kristian Kreković (1901-1985), distinguished Croatian painter, spent the years 1948-1952 in Sweden, where he made several portraits of members of the Schmitz family in Malmo. It is known that during that period Kreković made a portrait of the Swedish King Gustav Vth. He also portrayed Mahatma Gandhi in his atelier in Paris in 1931, who often visited him. Upon the intiative of Mrs. Ljerka Galic of the Croatian Foundation Heritage, an exhibition of Kreković's works of art has been organized in Malmo in October 2017. |

Marijan Zubanovic 1931-2016 Croatian technical thermodynamics expert in France

 | Marijan Zubanović, born in 1931 in the village of Virje on Croatian north, completed his studies of mechanical engineering in 1957 at the University of Zagreb. In 1959, not willing to work for military industry of ex-Yugoslavia, he emigrated to France. In 1970, he founded and directed STS enterprise (Systeme Thermodynamique Serivce). He solved the problem of air conditioning for the first French atomic submarine "Le Redoutable", and patented cooling systems for French nuclear power plants.

 | Franjo Krežma entered the Vienna Conservatory as nine-years-old boy, and was the youngest student of this Conservatory ever! He ended his student days at the age of 13. He began the spectacular concert career all over Europe. When he was sixteen, a concert audience in Rome, Prague, Venice, Geneva and Paris already adored him. The critics pointed to the beauty of his sound and a phenomenal interpretation, and one wrote: "Anatomy of the genius is futile work!" In Italy, he was honored to play on Paganini's violin, and at age 17, he became a concertmaster at the Berlin Royal Orchestra (today's Berlin Philharmonic). His compositions are performed by Krešimir Marmilić and Yoko Nishii, who issued a CD.

 | Jelko Yuresha was born in 1937 as Željko Jureša in Croatia's capital Zagreb. In 1958, Jelko Yuresha emigrated to England, later gaining United Kingdom citizenship. Yuresha made his professional debut as a first guest artist with the newly formed Irish Theatre Ballet in Dublin. He joined London Festival Ballet (today English National Ballet) in 1959. In 1959, Yuresha partnered with Belinda Wright at a Royal Command Performance before Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in Manchester. Jelko Yuresha and Belinda Wright married in 1961. In 2017, Mr. Jelko Yuresha has donated his valuable ballet collection to his native City of Zagreb.

 | The recital of distinguished pianist Stefan Warzycki is being given in aid of the International Trust for Croatian Monuments, which was founded in 1991 under the auspices of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (UK) in response to damage and destruction of monuments of culture in Croatia caused by war. It has supported the restoration of churches, cathedrals, museums, libraries and works of art. All of the music in this recital is for the left hand alone, composed by J.S. Bach (Brahms's superb arrangement), F. Bridge, D. Lipatti, M. Moszkowski, L. Godowski, P.Z. Novak). The concert will be held at Leighton House Museum, 12 Holland Park Road, London, W14 8LZ, on Wed 28 Feb 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

 | Marijan Đuzel (1990), extraordinarily talented young Croatian pianist, studied with Djordje Stanetti and Dubravka Tomšić, and currently studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel with Aleksandar Madžar. He gave recitals at many festivals such as Music at Eelswamp (Thailand), International Keyboard Institute & Festival (New York), Nei Suoni dei Luoghi (Italy), as well as Hvar Summer Festival, Zadar Concert Season, Rab Musical Evenings, Concerts in Euphrasian Basilica, Youth at Lisinski (Croatia) and others.

MOHO discontinuity discovered by Andrija Mohorovic described in Japan by Kiyoo Wadati already in 1925

| The title of the 1925 article published by Kiyoo Wadati, distinguished Japanese seismologist, is "On Mohorovičić Wave appeared in Tazima-Earthquake", published in the Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan in No. 8, 1925. It is indeed a big surprise to see such an echo of Mohorovičić's pioneering work in seismology. As we can see, his name appears already in the title of the article. The MOHO discontinuity, the notion now in current use throughout the world, has been discovered in Zagreb by this great scientist in 1909.

 | Denis Vignot from France wrote a deeply moving historical novel entitled Le Choix (The Choice), dealing with Croatia in the early 1990s during the Yugoslav and Serbian agression on Croatia. It is based on personal experiances in Croatia, dealing with love, with the country in trouble, with honor. This extraordinary book, published in France in 20016, containing more than 750 pages. One of the main protagonists in the book is Anton Domovina, former memeber of the French Legion, which the readers will easily recognize (Domovina = Homeland, in Croatian). The author, Denis Vignot, deserves our deep gratitude for having written this monumental literary testimony.

 | Miro Gavran is the greatest contemporary Croatian writer, whose plays and novels have been translated into fourty languages worldwide. His novel "Kafka's friend" has been released in Sofia, Bulgaria, by respected publishing house "Paradox". The translation into Bulgarian was done by Valentina Sedevčeva. This novel has so far been translated from its original Croatian, into Dutch, Czech, Slovakian, English and Albanian, as well as partially, into French and Esperanto. It tells a powerful and emotional story of two writers and friends, Franz Kafka and Max Brod, and the women that determined their destiny. |

 | Eugene Garland of ISI and Current Contents named Dr. Krešimir Krnjević as one of the 1,000 most cited contemporary scientists and named three of his papers "citation classics." He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since 1975., as well as Honorary Member of the Croatian Pharmacological Association (1983), Honorary President and Member of the Advisory Board of the Croatian Institute of Brain Research (since 1991), Corresponding Member of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (1992) , etc. He was also president of the International Croatian Initiative (1992-1998). Croatian tamburitza orchestral play widespread throughout the world

 | Croatian tamburitza tradition goes back to the mid 19th century, when orchestral tamburiza play has been introduced in the city of Osijek on the NW of Croatia. It soon became quite widespread, not only in Croatia, but in many other countries throughout the world. Tamburitza play is an essential part of Croatian music culture, recognizable throughout the globe, especially in the USA, Argentina, Chile and Australia. In Croatia, there even used to be tamburitza orchestras for blind children. Orchestras for girls and women bear witness of an early emancipation of Croatian women already in the early 1900s.  | Ivica Percl (1945-2007) was Croatian singer, composer and painter, who accompanied his singing with his guitar and harp. His best known song is Stari Pjer, composed by Đorđe Novković. It is very little known that this song was beautifully interpreted by a famous Greek singer Nana Mouskouri, in French and in German. In this article we collect some of their interpretations of the song, as well as by a few other singers. As a musician, he took part in defense of Croatia with his guitar on warious Croatian battlefields, since 1991. He was a very modest and unassuming person.

 | Dr. Mladen Ibler, born in Zagreb, besides his native Croatian, spoke English, Danish, German and Russian. He organized Croatian workshops at the International Peace and Understanding Conference in Copenhagen (1989) and Vienna (1991) and lectured at the same conference in Copenhagen (1994). As the president of the Croatian Cultural Association in Denmark, he worked on the international recognition of Croatia and the establishment of political and diplomatic relations between those two countries. He was Honorary Consul of Croatia to Denmark 1994, as well as ambassador to Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland domiciled in Stockholm in 1996. From 1999 till 2005 he was ambassador of Croatia to Australia and New Zealand, with residency in Canberra. |

 | Croatian writer Miro Gavran will have three premieres across the globe in October 2017. Ensemble Theater from Augsburg, Germany, will have premire of comedy "The Doll" on October 28th. On the same day theatre "M-ART" from Moscow, Russia, will have premiere of Gavran's play "My Wife's Husband". WeMove theatre from Bangalore, India, will have premiere of Miro Gavran's comedy "All About Women" in Kannada langauge. Miro Gavran so far had more than 300 premieres all around the world which were seen by more than 3 million viewers. His plays were translated into 40 languages!
