Lady Jadranka Beresford-Peirse, b. Njerš, of Croatian origin, lives in London, and is a founder of The International Trust for Croatian Monuments already in 1991. Since then, she has organized numerous humanitarian and cultural events and undertakings. Here we reproduce her very interesting article published in London by "The Bridge", a journal of Croatian community in England, which deals with The Šenoa House, which is a private museum in the city of Zagreb, directed by Mrs. Jasmina Reis. August Šenoa is significant Croatian writer from the 19th century, one of the trademarks of Croatian literature.

MOHO discontinuity discovered by Andrija Mohorovic described in Japan by Kiyoo Wadati already in 1925

The title of the 1925 article published by Kiyoo Wadati, distinguished Japanese seismologist, is "On Mohorovičić Wave appeared in Tazima-Earthquake", published in the Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan in No. 8, 1925. It is indeed a big surprise to see such an echo of Mohorovičić's pioneering work in seismology. As we can see, his name appears already in the title of the article. The MOHO discontinuity, the notion now in current use throughout the world, has been discovered in Zagreb by this great scientist in 1909.

2CELLOS have been exceptionally warmly received in the Philippines, where they performed some of their greatest hits from classical and rock music. They also took part in promoting the Philippine quisine and tourism. 2CELLOS are classically trained Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, who have garnered millions of views on YouTube for their sensational renditions of some of the music world's greatest and most well-known pop and rock hits.

Denis Vignot author of the novel Le Choix / The Choice dealing with Croatia published in France
Denis Vignot from France wrote a deeply moving historical novel entitled Le Choix (The Choice), dealing with Croatia in the early 1990s during the Yugoslav and Serbian agression on Croatia. It is based on personal experiances in Croatia, dealing with love, with the country in trouble, with honor. This extraordinary book, published in France in 20016, containing more than 750 pages. One of the main protagonists in the book is Anton Domovina, former memeber of the French Legion, which the readers will easily recognize (Domovina = Homeland, in Croatian). The author, Denis Vignot, deserves our deep gratitude for having written this monumental literary testimony.

Mihael Ferić, distinguished Croatian expert for tamburitza music, founded the Tambura Museum in the town of Brod na Savi in 2012, which is unique in the world. It contains a fascinating collection of tamburitza instruments of amazing versatility, since the mid 19th century until today, as well as a rich collection of various manuals and books. The most valuable book has been written by Mr. Ferić himself, entitled "Croatian Tambura Breviary", written in Croatian. Miro Gavran's novel "Kafka's Friend" published in Bulgarian in 2017
Miro Gavran is the greatest contemporary Croatian writer, whose plays and novels have been translated into fourty languages worldwide. His novel "Kafka's friend" has been released in Sofia, Bulgaria, by respected publishing house "Paradox". The translation into Bulgarian was done by Valentina Sedevčeva. This novel has so far been translated from its original Croatian, into Dutch, Czech, Slovakian, English and Albanian, as well as partially, into French and Esperanto. It tells a powerful and emotional story of two writers and friends, Franz Kafka and Max Brod, and the women that determined their destiny.

Kresimir Krnjevic distinguished Croatian neuroscientist celebrates 90 years in 2017
Eugene Garland of ISI and Current Contents named Dr. Krešimir Krnjević as one of the 1,000 most cited contemporary scientists and named three of his papers "citation classics." He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since 1975., as well as Honorary Member of the Croatian Pharmacological Association (1983), Honorary President and Member of the Advisory Board of the Croatian Institute of Brain Research (since 1991), Corresponding Member of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (1992) , etc. He was also president of the International Croatian Initiative (1992-1998). We provided an article written by Professor Ante Padjen, of the McGill University, Canada, which has been published in 2017 by Gaudeamus, the journal of AMCA Toronto.

Croatian tamburitza orchestral play widespread throughout the world
Croatian tamburitza tradition goes back to the mid 19th century, when orchestral tamburiza play has been introduced in the city of Osijek on the NW of Croatia. It soon became quite widespread, not only in Croatia, but in many other countries throughout the world. Tamburitza play is an essential part of Croatian music culture, recognizable throughout the globe, especially in the USA, Argentina, Chile and Australia. In Croatia, there even used to be tamburitza orchestras for blind children. Orchestras for girls and women bear witness of an early emancipation of Croatian women already in the early 1900s. Ivica Percl's song Stari Pjer - Old Pierre - interpreted by Greek singer Nana Mouskouri in German and French
Ivica Percl (1945-2007) was Croatian singer, composer and painter, who accompanied his singing with his guitar and harp. His best known song is Stari Pjer, composed by Đorđe Novković. It is very little known that this song was beautifully interpreted by a famous Greek singer Nana Mouskouri, in French and in German. In this article we collect some of their interpretations of the song, as well as by a few other singers. As a musician, he took part in defense of Croatia with his guitar on warious Croatian battlefields, since 1991. He was a very modest and unassuming person.

Mladen Ibler 1937-2017 distinguished Croatian medical scientist and diplomat
Dr. Mladen Ibler, born in Zagreb, besides his native Croatian, spoke English, Danish, German and Russian. He organized Croatian workshops at the International Peace and Understanding Conference in Copenhagen (1989) and Vienna (1991) and lectured at the same conference in Copenhagen (1994). As the president of the Croatian Cultural Association in Denmark, he worked on the international recognition of Croatia and the establishment of political and diplomatic relations between those two countries. He was Honorary Consul of Croatia to Denmark 1994, as well as ambassador to Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland domiciled in Stockholm in 1996. From 1999 till 2005 he was ambassador of Croatia to Australia and New Zealand, with residency in Canberra.

Croatian writer Miro Gavran will have three premieres across the globe in October 2017. Ensemble Theater from Augsburg, Germany, will have premire of comedy "The Doll" on October 28th. On the same day theatre "M-ART" from Moscow, Russia, will have premiere of Gavran's play "My Wife's Husband". WeMove theatre from Bangalore, India, will have premiere of Miro Gavran's comedy "All About Women" in Kannada langauge. Miro Gavran so far had more than 300 premieres all around the world which were seen by more than 3 million viewers. His plays were translated into 40 languages!

Public call for an open statement of interest Small and Medium Business Entrepreneurs

The Croatian Ministry of Tourism has issued a public call for an open statement to identify the interests and needs of small and medium - sized enterprises to invest in projects raising quality and additional offers of accommodation facilities from "Hotels", who could be co-financed with EU Structural Funds. LADO National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia founded in 1949 in Zagreb as a professional national ensemble, with the aim of researching, artistically interpreting and presenting on stage the most beautiful examples of the rich cultural traditions of Croatia. The ensemble's 39 brilliant dancers, who are also excellent singers, can easily transform this folk dance ensemble into an impressive folk choir, while its 14 superb musicians play some fifty different traditional and classical instruments. Yoko Nishii pianist concert at the Mimara Palace in Zagreb in Sep 2017
Yoko Nishii had an excellent pianist concert at the Mimara Palace in Zagreb, which has started with Japanese and Croatian composers. She is known as a proponent of Croatian music heritage, especially the music works of Dora Pejačević (1885 - 1923), the first significant Croatian woman composer. The concert has been organized by the Embassy of Japan in the city of Zagreb. Till now, Yoko Nishii had 46 soloist concerts in as many as 24 Croatian cities and towns. She speaks Croatian, and in 2015 she published the double CD in Tokyo containing pianist works of Dora Pejačević.

Andrew Bogut very successful Croatian Australian basketball player in the NBA
Born in 1984 in Melbourne, Australia, in the family of Croatian immigrants, Andrew Bogut started to play basketball in the NBA since 2005. He has 213 cm, i.e., 7 feet, weighs 118 kg and he won the 2015 NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors. He represented Australia at several World Championships. His idol was Toni Kukoč, Croatian basketball player who has played in NBA for Chicago Bulls.

Mirko Tomasovic 1938-2017 distinguished Croatian literary historian and translator
A member of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Mirko Tomasović was the most prolific literary translator from Romance languages in Croatia and distinguished expert in Latinist literature. He left us important studies on the written Croatian and Latin heritage of Marko Marulić (1450-1524), the most important Croatian Renaissance writer. His translations into Croatian include about 20 books of Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan and Occitan poetry, as well as epic and drama literature.

Coffee, tea and snacks company Franck, stretch film producer Bomark Pak from Ludbreg, confectionery company Kraš, transporting firm Invest Sedlic and manufacturing and engineering company Solvis were the Croatian companies to make the report.

Tomislav "Tom" Mihaljevic is named new CEO of the Cleveland Clinic
In just a few months, Dr. Tomislav Mihaljevic (left) will take over as the new president and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic. The incoming CEO was born in Croatia and is a naturalized American citizen. He earned his medical degree from the University of Zagreb's medical school in Croatia and completed his residency in cardiovascular surgery at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery of the University of Zurich in Switzerland before coming to the United States. He speaks Croatian, English and German.

Yoko Nishii is indefatiguable proponent of fine music, including Japanese and Croatian. Her concert tour in September 2017 includes Japanese authors Kozaburo Hirai and Kosaku Yamada, as well as Croatian authors Božidar Kunc (brother of a distinguished Croatian opera singer Zinka Kunc) and Dora Pejačević (the first internationally known Croatian woman-composer). As we can see, music does not know the borders. Yoko Nishii is a lecturer at Aichi University of the Arts in Japan. She speaks Croatian language.

Survival. The Story of Global Health. The series is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) created by Igor Rudan (left), Mickey Chopra and Iain Campbell and developed by the University of Edinburgh. The course was launched in 2017 and is available to watch online at YouTube. Each chapter covers a topic relating to global health.

Luka Modric one of the best contemporary European soccer players
Luka Modrić (born 1985) is a Croatian professional soccer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid and captains the Croatia national team. Modrić plays mainly as a central midfielder but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder, usually deployed as a deep-lying playmaker. He is recepient of the UEFA Champions League Awards Best Midfielder for 2017. Luka is married with Vanja (b. Bosnić, from Zagreb), and has two children Ivano and Ema.

Mateo Kovacic top Croatian soccer player fluently speaking English, German, Italian and Castillian

Besides his mother tongue Croatian, Mateo Kovačić is fluent in four additional languages: English, German, Italian and Castillian, as clearly indicated by his media appearances and interviews. He is among the best contemparary Croatian players, and a member of the Croatian national soccer team. Currently, he is a member of the Real Madrid in Spain. His team-mate is Luka Modrić, another distinguished Croatian soccer player and captain of the Croatian national team.

Sandra Perkovic wins gold in London
Sandra Perkovic (left) has won gold at the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Championships on Sunday, August 13, 2017. This is her second gold medal at the IAAF World Championships. She is also a two time Olympic gold medal winner, having won gold at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games.

We are proud to announce that the NFCA is working directly with the NY City Croatian Catholic community at Sts. Cyril Methodius Church to host a Sunday 1:00 pm, October 1st music event-fundraiser-salute to honor NFCA's "40 Under 40" winners and to benefit the Banja Luka Catholic Diocese. Teresa Scanlan, Miss America 2011 will be one of the featured Croatian American guests in attendance. Next, the NFCA continues a myriad of projects to help Bosnian Croats within political, diplomatic and humanitarian projects.

Dina Merhav דינה מרחב‎‎ distinguished Croatian born Israeli sculptor presented by Yoko Nishii
Dina Merhav is an international artist, born in 1936 in the city of Vinkovci, Croatia, whose works are in public and private collections throughout the globe. Her sculptures can be found in Mumbai, India, Geneve, Switzerland, Canada, USA and Europe. In Israel, her base and homeland, the sculptures are placed in parks, schools, industrial plants, and memorial sites. Her first individual exhibition outside of Israel took place in Croatia's capital Zagreb in 2013, in the Glyptotheque of HAZU (= Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts) Gallery in Zagreb. Later the same year, it has been welcomed in her native city of Vinkovci with great appreciation and love.

University of Zadar to host Inaugural "May of Brešan" in 2018
Ivo Brešan (27 May 1936 - 3 January 2017) was a Croatian playwright, novelist, and screenwriter, known for political satire. From May 18-20, 2018 the University of Zadar will host the the inaugural "May of Brešan", an international academic conference dedicated to examining Brešan's works. Those wanting to participate in the conference have until December 1, 2017 to register.

Darko Varga 1956-2017 distinguished Croatian publicist
Darko Varga, 1956-2017, born in the city of Osijek, grown up in the town of Dalj, attended High School in his native city, and completed his studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Zagreb. From 1993 till 2000, he served as director of HEP (Croatian Electric Supply) in the region of Baranja on the NE of Croatia. He was active in revitalizing Croatian villages as well as ecotourism in Baranja, ravaged in the early 1990s during the Serbian aggression on Croatia. Also, he was an indefatigable promoter of cultural traditions of the region. His latest work on an impressive monograph dealing with the cuisine of the noble Croatian family of Zrinski, has been published in 2015 on the occasion of 450 years since the legendary Siget Battle in 1566.

We invite you to enjoy in the music of 2CELLOS, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, playing several well known classical tunes, accompanied with the London Symphony Orchestra. The tunes have been filmed in some celebrated Croatian resorts, like on the Zlatni rat (Golden Cape) on the island of Brač, then in the city of Dubrovnik, as well as on the Plitice Lakes. In the course of 5 years only, 2CELLOS had about one thousand of concerts in more than forty countries worldwide.

Miro Gavran's novel John the Baptist translated from Croatian into Bulgarian
Miro Gavran's book "John the Baptist" has been translated into Bulgarian by Valentina Sedefcheva, Sofia. So far this novel had seven editions in Croatian. It was also published in Spanish in Buenos Aires, in German in Vienna and in English on Amazon. It is a story set in 1st century AD, in time of violent political and religious shift. Heroes of the novel are John the Baptist, Saloma, Elisha and Bileam, and Jesus Christ himself.

Croatian Men's National Water Polo team reclaims World Champions title
The Croatian men's Water Polo team beat Hungary 8-6 in the finals of the 2017 FINA Water Polo championships on Saturday July 29th. It was the first time since 2007 that the Croatian Men's Water Polo team have won the championship. There will be a celebration for the world champion Croatian water polo team on Ban Jelacic Square in Zagreb on Sunday July 30, 2017 starting at 6:00 p.m.

In July 2017, Croazzola Concertante ensemble had a very successful concert in the Euphrasius Basilica in Porec. The basilica is under protection of UNESCO, and is known for fantastic acoustic. The name of Croazzola is obviously composed of the names of Croatia and Piazolla, a famous Argentinean composer. On the photo is Ivana Marija Vidović, pianist, poet from Dubrovnik and director of Epidaurus Festival, with maestro Krešimir Marmilić who founded the Croazzola Concertante ensemble in Zagreb.

RONNA - Robotic NeuroNAvigation in neurosurgery project led by Bojan Jerbic in Croatia
RONNA - Robotic NeuroNAvigation is a project that deals with research into and the design of a new innovative and competitive robotic system for application in neurosurgery. The project was launched by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, with the Clinical hospital Dubrava and the Croatian Institute for Brain Research as partners in the project. Founders of the project are Professor Bojan Jerbić, PhD (project leader, on the photo), Assistant Professor Darko Chudy, PhD and Professor Gojko Nikolić, PhD.

Dora Pejacevic's music played by Yoko Nishii in Nasice

Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) is the first internationally known Croatian woman composer. Her growing popularity has reached even Japan, where in 2015 Yoko Nishii, a fine pianist, has published a double CD in Tokyo containing Dora's collected pianistic works. Yoko Nishii, on the photo, has visited numerous Croatian towns, including the town of Našice, where she was playing on the paino on which Dora Pejačević was composing her works. Yoko Nishii speaks Croatian, and she completed a part of her music studies in the town of Lovran in Croatia.
