CEREMONIAL 300TH PERFORMANCE OF MIRO GAVRAN'S DRAMA “ALL ABOUT MEN “ IN PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
On Sunday, April 14th in Prague, Theater STUDIO DVA presented the ceremonial 300th performance of Miro Gavran's drama 'All About Men', translated by Blanka Kučerova and Blanka Fišerova, and directed by Jana Janekova. The main roles are played by famous Czech actors Miloš Kramar, Filip Blažek, and Michal Slany.
Gavran's drama depicts different aspects of the male-female relationship from the man's perspective. It has been premiered in ten nations. Humor and drama elements are woven into the play with the intent of portraying the modern man through several generations in everyday life situations.
Miro Gavran is a well-known author in the Czech Republic; so far, he has had twelve premieres there, as well as two published books - a drama book, and the novel 'Judita'. Miro Gavran's works have hitherto been translated into 35 languages, and have had over 200 permieres perfomed around the world.

Miro Gavran
Miro Gavran patří mezi nejvýraznější chorvatské autory své generace (narozen 1961). Jeho dílo bylo přeloženo do více než dvaceti jazyků. Studoval dramaturgii na Divadelní, filmové a televizní akademii v Záhřebu, pracoval v záhřebském divadle ITD – nejdříve jako dramatik (v letech 1986 – 1989) později jako umělecký šéf (1989 – 1992). Zasloužil se o realizaci projektu Moderní chorvatské drama (1990 – 1992) a vytvořil také seriál Dramatická knihovna v divadle ITD.
Od roku 1990 vedl školu tvůrčího psaní, dramatu a prózy. Založil divadlo Epilog v Záhřebu (1995) a stal se jeho dvorním autorem (1995 – 2001). Pokoušel se také o režii vlastních her. Společně s manželkou Mladenou založil divadlo Gavran v roce 2002. Publikoval řadu próz (např. Zapomenutý syn, Povídky o výjimečně obyčejných lidech, Klára, Judita, Pilát Pontský). Jako dramatik debutoval v roce 1983, kdy divadlo Gavella produkovalo jeho hru Kreontova Antigona. Od té doby napsal zhruba 30 her a účastnil se více než 120 premiér inscenací svých textů v Chorvatsku, Nizozemí, USA, Slovinsku, Polsku, Bulharsku, Maďarsku, Bosně a Hercegovině. K nejznámějším hrám patří např. Noc bohů, Lásky George Washingtona, Čechov se loučí s Tolstojem, Shakespeare a Elizabeth, Jak umírá herec, Vše o ženách, Jak zabít prezidenta.
Miro Gavran byl také prvním chorvatským autorem, jehož hry se hrály v Eugene O‘Neill Theater Center (1999). Získal 15 divadelních a literárních ocenění, mezi něž patří např. i Literární cena pro nejlepšího spisovatele roku střední Evropy (1999), udělovaná v Maďarsku. Jeho román Zapomenutý syn byl zařazen na čestnou listinu v roce 2002 ve Švýcarsku. Je také jediným žijícím evropským spisovatelem a dramatikem, kterému byl věnován divadelní festival. Emil Nedielka a Michal Babiak /Trnava/ založili GAVRANFEST, věnovaný autorovu dílu. První ročník proběhl v únoru 2003 a účastnila se jej divadla ze Slovenska, která mají v repertoáru Gavranovy hry. O rok později se festivalu účastnila divadla z Franice, Slovenska, Polska, Slovinska a Chorvatska.
