The Turkaly Art Gallery provides a beautiful collection of works of art of Josip Turkalj, outstanding Croatian artist in the USA. In 1999 he received the "Presidential Award for the Advancement of Croatian Culture", an award bestowed on him by the Government of Croatia.

Msgr. Gerardo Žerdin, Croatian bishop and missionary in Peru in the region of the Amazon river, founded the Nopoki Center for Investigation and Intercultural Formation. The aim is to educate future school teachers for work within their native communities, in order to preserve their roots, language and customs, and ensure material and cultural prosperity. Zvonimir Janko, professor of mathematics at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, is a well known expert in the theory of finite groups. His discovery in 1964 of the group now called the first Janko group in his honour, launched the modern theory of sporadic groups. We wish him a happy 75th birthday! And a happy 100th birthday to his father in Bjelovar, Croatia!

Zoran Dukić won more prizes on international competitions than any other guitarist in the world. He had solo concerts in more than 30 countries on all five continents. He is teaching among others at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Hochschule für Musik in Aachen, and at the Escuela Superior de Musica de Barcelona.

Radovan Grgec (1929-2007), president of the Croatian Literary Society of St. Jerome (Hrvatsko književno društvo Sv. Jeronima), Zagreb, one of the founders and editor in chief of the "Marulić" journal, and wonderful person, died in Zagreb. His name is well known among many Croats throughout the world.

Zdravko Dučmelić (1923-1989), outstanding Croatian - Argentinean painter, masterfully illustrated a famous book "Laberintos", written by Jorge Luis Borges, with his surreal, quasi-metaphysical works.

Luka Brajnović (1919-2001) was professor of Ethics of the University of Navarra, a former director of the Institute of Artes Liberales, a well known Spanish intellectual, a Croat born in Boka kotorska. A prestigeous international award Premio Brajnovic a la communication was established in 1997, ie during his lifetime.

We have in mind numerous Croatians and their friends throughout the world  who are eager to improve their Croatian. We also want to help tourists and those interested in Croatian culture in general. Croatian citizens will hopefully have at their disposal an easy mean to improve their English, or some other language.

Vukovar is reviving from ashes. Many of its wounds have been cured, but a lots remains to be done in the future. Of course, its extremely difficult past will not be forgotten. One of the symbols of the city is Siniša Glavašević (1960-1991), Croatian writer and newspaperman.
