» Vukovar was the target of more than 1,500,000 grenades in 1991

In 1991 the city of Vukovar in Croatia, on the Danube river, was the target of more than 1,500,000 grenades of all kinds of sizes in just a few months, and more than 13,500 houses were devastated. A favorite target during the Serbian aggression was 50m high water tower, on the left. The city is the birthplace of professor Lavoslav Leopold Ružička, distinguished expert in chemistry, one among three Croatian Nobel Prize winners.

UMKC student/alumni will perform in a Concert for World Peace, Saturday, August 29, 2009, 7:30pm, Rose Theatre, Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Ave., Kansas City, MO 64114. The Conservatory students and alumni will perform with guest artist Nenad Bach. Nenad Bach is a recording artist, composer, performer, and peace activist.  He is originally from Croatia, but now lives in New York.

The English edition of the monograph The Vukovar Hospital 1991 has been published in 2008 by the Vukovar Hospital and "Society of the Croatian doctors and volunteers in 1990-1991". Its Organizer council consists of Dr.  Vesna Bosanac, Dr. Juraj Njavro, and Dr. Štefan Biro. Dr. Drago Štambuk in his speech in Tokyo at the Holy Mass for Vukovar Victims, November 16th 2008, said that "... Vukovar's treatment by the Serbian forces onslaught from August to November 1991, when up to 15,000 missiles would fall daily on this beautiful baroque town, turned its citizens into martyrs and town into a waste land. The lives of the inhabitants were conducted inside cellars..."
