On 8 October 1991 the Croatian Deit (Parliament) decided to cancel all ties with ex-Yugoslavia.   Izumi Yamaguchi, Japanese pop and jazz singer, surprized us all with her beautiful interpretation of a popular Croatian song Četiri stađuna (Four Seasons), which she sings in Croatian language. The song is orginally performed by Meri Cetinić, composed by Zdenko Runjić, and the lyrics written by Tomislav Zuppa.

This year a wonderful example of “friendship building” has been set in motion between our two countries, Japan and Croatia. Accumulated efforts of Japanese and Croatian people have resulted in the project of “Japan - Croatia Friendship House” in Tokamachi, Niigata. Dr. Ante Simonić, ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, and Dr. Zlatko Mateša, head of the Croatian Olympic Committee, had the honor to be captains of two teams dressed in well known Croatian sports dresses. One team was composed of members of China Radio International Program in Croatian language, and another of former Chinese students of Croatian language in Bejing, plus Dr. Simonić and Dr. Mateša as captains. In the Japanese city of Tokamachi and with the presence of eminent Croatian architects Vinko Penezić and Kresimir Rogina, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Japan Dr. Drago Štambuk and the Mayor of Tokamachi Yoshifumi Sekiguchi confirmed the decision of the City Council regarding the construction of Croatian House that would represent the focal point of Croatia-Japan friendship in Japan.

Amazing news: Russian web site www.soccer.ru/spasibo invites all Russian fans to Say Thank You to Croatia!  or in Russian, Spasibo Horvatiya! Namely, Croatian 2007 win at Wembley in London over England opened the door for the Russian team to appear at the 2008 European Football Championship. Thousands of Russians of all ages responded to the invitation.
