» 1131 years since the first international recognition of Croatia

 The first international recognition of Croatia came on May 21, 879 from Pope John VIII, that is, 1131 years ago. During the solemn divine service in St. Peter's church in Rome in 879, Pope John VIII gave his blessing to Croatian prince Branimir and the whole Croatian people, about which he informed the prince in his letters. A detail of Croatian sacral monument from 9th century can be seen on the left, with the name of prince Branimir.

The Savannah nuclear ship, the first nuclear-powered merchant ship, was built to the plans of Erazmo Tićac 1904-1968, a Croatian  born near the naval port of Rijeka. After the president Dwight Eisenhower announced his decision to build an experimental nuclear-powered merchant ship, Tićac became the leading planner. The ship was launched in 1959. Nenad Bach, distinguished Croatian-American musician, and Miro Gavran, distinguished Croatian writer, both of worldwide reputation, were guests of the Croatian Television show Lica nacije (Faces of the Nation) hosted by Branimir Bilić and directed by Željko Musić. This very interesting interview discussed strategic issues of global promotion of Croatian culture, as well as fundamental human values nourished within family.

Dr. Edward Lucas Miloslavich (Eduard Luka Miloslavić), professor at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, was one among 12 medical experts who investigated the Katyn Forest tragedy in 1943. In 1951 and 1952 he gave an official report also to the Congress of the USA. We express our deep condolances to the Polish people on the occasion of the airplane tragedy of April 10 2010.

 Henrik Heger, distinguished Croatian scientist, is professor at Sorbonne in Paris, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. He founded Croatian Studies at Sorbonne already in 1981. In 1983 professor Heger organized an important international symposium Les croates et la civilisation du livre  (Croatians and the Civilization of the Book). He has contributed enormously to spreading the knowledge about Croatian culture.

 Vladimir Hudolin, 1922-1996, is distinguished Croatian psychiastrist of worldwide reputation, professor at the University of Zagreb. He has  created the social-ecological approach to alcohol  related problems centred on the  family  and on the community. In Italy only more than 2500 Clubs of Alcoholics have been founded which exploit his methodology. Professor Hudolin is a honorary citizen of San Daniele del Friuli, Italy, since 1983.

Croatian playwright Miro Gavran will have his drama NIGHT OF THE GODS premiered at the TEATRO ALLO SCALO in Rome on February 16, 2010. Two days later, on February 18, Miro Gavran will present his theatre and literary work to the students of the renowned Rome university SAPIENZA, with his wife, the actress Mladena Gavran. His works have been translated into 32 languages.

Ivan Meštrović sculptured 6m high equestrian statues representing American Indians, known as Spearmen or Bowmen. The sculptures have been created in 1926 in his atelier in Croatia's capital Zagreb. Each of them is weighing 8 tons, and placed at the entrance of Grant Park in Chicago. We invite you to see a short film from Zagreb describing Meštrović's work on these famous monuments.
