Erazmo Ben Ticac Croatian leading planner of Savannah nuclear ship 1959

The Savannah nuclear ship, the first nuclear-powered merchant ship, was built to the plans of Erazmo Tićac 1904-1968, a Croatian born near the naval port of Rijeka. After the president Dwight Eisenhower announced his decision to build an experimental nuclear-powered merchant ship, Tićac became the leading planner. The ship was launched in 1959. Dr. Edward L. Miloslavich Croatian investigator of the Katyn Forest tragedy

Dr. Edward Lucas Miloslavich (Eduard Luka Miloslavić), professor at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, was one among 12 medical experts who investigated the Katyn Forest tragedy in 1943. In 1951 and 1952 he gave an official report also to the Congress of the USA. We express our deep condolances to the Polish people on the occasion of the airplane tragedy of April 10 2010.

Mervan Pasic Croatian mathematician invited by Japanese colleagues

Dr. Mervan Pašić, professor of Mathematics at the University of Zagreb, visited Japan from November 11-22 2009 upon the invitation of Japanese mathematicians: Yuki Naito, Hiroyuki Usami, Tetsutaro Shibata and Jitsuro Sugie. He delivered an invited lecture at the University of Hiroshima and a plenary lecture at the University of Kyoto. The cities of Kyoto and Zagreb are twinned since 1972.

Henrik Heger, distinguished Croatian scientist, is professor at Sorbonne in Paris, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. He founded Croatian Studies at Sorbonne already in 1981. In 1983 professor Heger organized an important international symposium Les croates et la civilisation du livre (Croatians and the Civilization of the Book). He has contributed enormously to spreading the knowledge about Croatian culture.

Radiological Society of North America President Hedvig Hricak, M.D., Ph.D., Dr. h.c., an internationally recognized leader in radiology research and public education, received a lifetime achievement award from Croatian President Stjepan Mesic at a December ceremony in Croatia. Dr. Hricak is a native of Croatia.

Vladimir Hudolin, 1922-1996, is distinguished Croatian psychiastrist of worldwide reputation, professor at the University of Zagreb. He has created the social-ecological approach to alcohol related problems centred on the family and on the community. In Italy only more than 2500 Clubs of Alcoholics have been founded which exploit his methodology. Professor Hudolin is a honorary citizen of San Daniele del Friuli, Italy, since 1983.

Jakša Cvitanić is Professor of Mathematical Finance at Caltech. Prior to joining Caltech in 2005, he held positions as Professor of Mathematics and Economics at USC and Associate Professor of Statistics at Columbia University. He is regarded as a leading expert in mathematical finance. Professor Cvitanić was born in the city of Split, Croatia, and completed his studies of mathematics at the University of Zagreb.

Two distinguished Croatian mathematicians, professors Zlatko Drmač, University of Zagreb, Croatia, and Krešimir Veselić on the photo, professor emeritus of the University of Hagen, Germany, received a prestigeous 2009 Linear Algebra Prize from the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics - SIAM, for the best scientific work published in the preceding three years in the field of Linear Algebra.

Branko Katalinic Croatian scientist directing DAAAM in Vienna for 20 years

Branko Katalinić, professor of robotics at the Technical University in Vienna, Austria, has founded a prestigeous international association DAAAM in 1990. In 2009 the 20th annual conference of DAAAM has been organized in Vienna. Among the past conferences, four of them have been organized in Croatia: in Dubrovnik, twice in Opatija and in Zadar. The DAAAM comprises more than fifty member states and hundreds of international organizations.
