Srdjan Bulat shines in Valencia
|
On Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Xth International Guitar Competition of Alhambra, Srdjan Bulat (left) shined winning three awards at this prestigious guitar competition. He placed second overall, and won an audience award and an award for best interpretation of Spanish music. On Sunday May 16 2010 he will have free and open concert in Chicago, International House.

Nenad Bach, distinguished Croatian-American musician, and Miro Gavran, distinguished Croatian writer, both of worldwide reputation, were guests of the Croatian Television show Lica nacije (Faces of the Nation) hosted by Branimir Bilić and directed by Željko Musić. This very interesting interview discussed strategic issues of global promotion of Croatian culture, as well as fundamental human values nourished within family.

Moreska in Croatia the last authentic sword dance in the Mediterranean

The moreška dance on the island of Korčula in Croatia can be played only by those for whom at least one parent is from the island. The dance dates from the Middle Ages, and together with the house of Marko Polo represents one of the chief attractions of the island. Croatians of Chicagoland book set to launch May 17, 2010

The Chicago area is home to more than 150,000 people of Croatian descent. In its heyday, the community grew so robust, it was known as the "second Croatian Capital." In her new book "Croatians of Chicagoland, " Maria Dugandzic-Pasic examines how this community and its leaders, clergy, laborers, politicians, athletes, benevolent societies and social organizations helped build and shape Chicago's history.

Henrik Heger, distinguished Croatian scientist, is professor at Sorbonne in Paris, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. He founded Croatian Studies at Sorbonne already in 1981. In 1983 professor Heger organized an important international symposium Les croates et la civilisation du livre (Croatians and the Civilization of the Book). He has contributed enormously to spreading the knowledge about Croatian culture.

The Sound of Music, von Trapp and Croatia

The Sound of Music, a well known film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, deals with the life of Georg von Trapp who was born in Zadar in 1880.
