Croatia is Team to Beat at Handball World Championships
Croatia Advances to Quarterfinals of Handball World Championships

Croatia continue to look to be the team to beat in the World Championships as they defeated previously unbeaten Hungary 25-18. Blazenko Lackovic top scored with six as the Olympic champions took a 19-11 half-time lead and then cruised to their sixth victory in a week. Defending champions Spain, who have also won their first five games in the competition, face Denmark in Group B later tonight. Russia kept alive their hopes of reaching Tuesday's quarter-finals as they condemned the pointless Czech Republic to a 30-26 defeat. The Russians trailed 14-12 at the break but Eduard Kokscharow bagged eight goals, including five penalties, as they overturned the deficit. Hosts Germany are still dreaming of their first world title in 29 years after beating Tunisia 35-28 in Dortmund to win their second game in Group I. Heiner Brand's side surged into a 19-11 interval lead and never looked in danger with Christian Zeitz top-scoring with seven and goalkeeper Henning Fritz taking the man-of-the match honours. They are level on points with Poland and Iceland after the former overcame a 14-12 deficit at half-time to win 35-33. The game was tied at 20-20 after ten minutes of the second period and at 30-30 with five minutes left but Iceland faded late on and lost their unbeaten record. It will be a four-team log jam at 2-1 in the group as two teams with one win thus far, European champions France and Slovenia, meet later.
