Lider press je izdavačka kuća sa sjedistem u Zagrebu. Osnovana je je kao dioničko drustvo početkom svibnja 2005. s prvenstvenim ciljem izdavanje novog poslovnog tjednika. Tjednik kojega smo nazvali LIDER počinje izlaziti u petak 7. listopada (u Zagrebu je na kioscima već u četvrtkak 6. listopada), a 3. listopada pokrenuli smo i ovu web stranicu.

Cilj nam je stvoriti medije koji će prije svega biti korisni poslovnoj zajednici u Hrvatskoj. Osim toga, Ĺželimo biti "odvjetnici" poduzetnika i menedĹžera prema drĹžavnim institucijama. Ĺ˝elimo biti branitelji ekonomske logike pred političkim populizmom. Zagovornici smo globalizacije i ulaska Hrvatske u Europsku uniju, ali ćemo okupiti sve relevantne stručnjaka da pokusamo odgovoriti kako u postojećim okolnostima voditi ekonomsku i poslovnu politiku koja će maksimirati koristi po domaću ekonomiju.

Ne Ĺželimo svoju publiku zatrpavati velikim količinama informacija. Njima su bombardirani i previse. Postavili smo sebi cilj da za njih probiremo informacije, odabiremo najvaĹžnije i stavljamo ih u kontekst globalizacijskih zbivanja. Trudit ćemo se za nase čitatelje otkrivati skrivena značenja pojedinih poslovnih događaja u kojima leĹži moć.

To je prva faza Ĺživota izdavačke kuće Lider press koja će se spacijalizirati upravo za "proizvodnju" poslovnih informacija i analiza. Plan nam je vrlo brzo krenuti u izdavanje poslovnih knjiga, CD-a, organiziranje okruglih stolova, savjetovanja i seminara.

Većinski vlasnici dioničkog drustva Lider press su sami zaposlenici. Uz njih, dioničari drustva su i dvije tvrtke iz sustava koncerna Agram: Euroagram iz Zagreba i Eurodom iz Osijeka. U narednih godinu dana Ĺželimo stvoriti dioničku strukturu u kojoj će siri krug urednika, novinara i ostalih zaposlenika zadrĹžati 55 posto vlasnistva, 20 posto zadrĹžale bi tvrtke koje su trenutno suvlasnici, a 25 posto dionica namijenjeno je partneru iz novinske djelatnosti koji će nam omogućiti brĹži razvoj i lakse dosizanje ciljeva.

Croatia Begins EU Talks

Croatia's team led by Sinisa Petrovic and European Commission officials on Monday began the explanatory stage of screening the level of adjustment of Croatian legislation governing intellectual property protection to the European Union's acquis communautaire. "There is a high level of adjustment of the Croatian laws to the acquis, but the key issue is implementation," Petrovic said. In 2003 Croatia overhauled the legislation regulating intellectual property protection. In the coming period Zagreb should strengthen its capacities for the implementation of relevant laws, notably in the fight against piracy and forgery.
On Wednesday, Croatia and the EC will start the explanatory stage of negotiations on social welfare and employment.
(Brussels/Zagreb, DTT-NET.COM)- Croatia’s government is gaining ground on its calls that Western Balkans countries should join existing free trade agreement of Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and avoid creating a new one as suggested last week by European Commission.

Officials from EU presidency and Stability Pact (SP) for South-East Europe told DTT-NET.COM on Friday that countries from Western Balkans are not obliged but are free to choose whether they want to join Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania at CEFTA organization created in 1992 or negotiate a new agreement for free trade zone in the region.

A spokesperson of EU presidency- the Austrian government- said that nations of the European bloc have nothing against the possibility of enlarging CEFTA.

“If the countries from the Balkans want to join CEFTA then that’s OK for us” the spokesperson said. Same reactions had also officials from SP charged since 2001 by the EU to help the regional countries on technical aspects of free 31 bilateral trade agreements signed so far.

“It’s up to the countries to decide”, Dragan Barbutovski the spokesperson of SP told DTT-NET.COM. However both officials said that CEFTA 15 year’s old regulations on trade should be upgraded and also criteria of the membership should be changed in order Balkans countries can join. Countries to join CEFTA must be members of World Trade Organisation (WTO) and have institutional relations with EU.

Austrian spokesperson of EU presidency and Barbutovski said that “CEFTA should ease and smooth its procedures to accept Balkan countries”.

Croatian government have already proposed the same in order to open the CEFTA door to its neighbours (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro and Macedonia).

Macedonia last year has completed negotiations for membership at CEFTA and is expected to join soon. Croatian government on Thursday said that Ukraine should also join the organisation.

The EC said last week that the new regional FTA agreement is expected to be concluded by mid-2006 and enter into force 2007, but following Croatia’s rejections; it’s most likely that plans are to be put on stand by until countries from the region and EC have not agreed between CEFTA and new regional free trade zone.

European Commissioner in charge of EU enlargements Olli Rehn last week called on Western Balkan countries to speed up efforts to create a new single trade area in the region, in order as it says, to better promote trade and economic development. EC said in a statement that current 31 bilateral free trade agreements between the countries of the area are insufficient and they should be transformed in a single regional agreement.

But following the strong rejection of the proposal by Croatian government, Rehn then said that the EC is keeping options opened and CEFTA could be the alternative to his proposal.

“We are still considering whether it should be based on CEFTA or something else. I think that CEFTA is a possibility which we are considering carefully,” Olli Rehn told Croatian National TV on Tuesday.

Croatia’s government argued that there is no need for duplication of existing organization.

Croatian public reacted harshly to the proposal fearing that the it has political connotations and eventual plans by Brussels to create a new family between countries based on former Yugoslavia model, a claim which was dismissed by EC and also by officials of Stability Pact for South-East Europe.

CEFTA is a multilateral agreement for creation of a free - trade zone by a gradual removal of duties for industrial goods, liberalization of trade for agricultural products, and free competition on the territories of the countries - members.


As Bulgaria and Romania are to join the EU in January next year or at latest in January 2008, they are to walk out of the trade network with Balkan region and also from CEFTA.

Earlier members of the organisation: Poland; Czech Republic, Slovakia; Hungary and Slovenia left as they joined the EU in May 2004.

Croatia: A 'New Deal' for Transport Infrastructure

Summary

Croatia will begin an infrastructure-improvement project by the end of 2006 that is ambitious enough to be dubbed the "New Deal" by Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta. Consisting of an expansion of railways and waterways, the project will position Croatia as the fastest inland route from Asia to Central Europe. The economically favorable project will solve many transportation problems facing the entire region, such as congested transport in the Bosporus and unstable transport through Serbia. And as Croatia begins its accession talks with the European Union, these projects will further solidify its bid.

Analysis

Croatia will begin an ambitious construction project of rail, road and waterways that will make the country the fastest inland route from Asia to Central Europe -- a plan baptized the "New Deal" by Croatian Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta. The projects include a large rail line from Rijeka, Croatia, to Barcs, Hungary; an expansion of the Croatian ports of Rijeka and Vukovar on the Adriatic Sea; and a channel connecting the Danube and Sava rivers.

The economically favorable projects will solve many transportation problems for the entire region, such as congested transport in the Bosporus and the unstable state of transport through Serbia. As Croatia begins its accession talks with the European Union, these projects further solidify its bid.

Croatia is one of the few countries from the former Yugoslav bloc with a functioning economy and no outstanding political issues, making its bid to join the EU as early as 2008 a shoo-in. In addition to furthering Croatia's economic development, these projects will reduce government spending on road projects, increase gross domestic product (GDP) and create many new jobs throughout the nation -- especially in the high-unemployment region of Slavonia, where the channel is to be built. They will also fit in with a shift in EU transportation policies over the past few years from road transport to rail and river due to cost and ecological issues.

The first project is a $740 million channel connecting the Danube and Sava rivers, set for completion in 2013. The channel will begin in the Danube port of Vukovar, cut across Slavonia and connect to the Sava port of Slavonski Brod -- reducing the distance goods must travel between the ports by 259 miles. At present, the Danube and Sava transport only a small percentage of their capacity. Thirty-two million tons a year transit the Danube, though it has a capacity to transport 92 million tons. The Sava river transports under a million tons a year, though it has the capacity to transport 15 million tons. And the channel will have a 12 million ton capacity. The difference in transport capacity between the Danube and Sava rivers will be dealt with by using the port of Vukovar to load containers on smaller ships for transit on the Sava and larger ships for transit on the Danube.

Vukovar, which serves both Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, is already a highly important port. And once the channel is complete -- along with the connecting rail projects -- Vukovar will be even more important as a key port connecting the North, Black and Adriatic seas. Currently, 850,000 tons per year transit Vukovar. After the planned expansion, however, this will grow to 2.5 million tons by 2015 and 6.5 million tons by 2025.

The second segment of Croatia's construction project is a $1.3 billion rail line beginning at the port of Rijeka, crossing the Sava in Zagreb and ending in Barcs. A rail line built in 1873 follows a portion of this route; 5 million tons of goods per year transit this route. The proposed line follows a more direct route that will cut the travel time in half, and will have the capacity to transport 25 million tons a year. The port of Rijeka will begin transporting more than 30 million tons of goods a year, making it one of the most important ports in Central and Eastern Europe -- more than the ports in Trieste, Italy, or Kopar, Slovenia.

Upon the completion of both projects, Rijeka and Vukovar will create a corridor able to cut transportation time from the Black Sea to Europe by a week. Moreover, the new route will solve the European Union's transportation problems through the Bosporus and Serbia. The Bosporus, which links the Black Sea with the Mediterranean, is one of the most-used and most-congested cargo routes from Asia to Europe, resulting in constant delays.

Serbia has also constituted a transport obstruction since the 1999 NATO bombings wiped out most of the infrastructure along its highly used section of the Danube. This included the bombing by NATO of several bridges, which blocked commercial traffic. Debris from the bombings remains, still hindering transport; the bombing also affected sections of the riverbed. Serbia is currently preoccupied with its own political instability as it faces independence referendums from two of its territories, Montenegro and Kosovo. Europe can reopen its transportation routes from the region -- and more securely -- with Serbia's neighbor, Croatia.

For its part, Croatia faces the predicament of financing its large projects, projects due to begin by the end of the year. The planned budget is not entirely out of Croatia's pocket, since the projects will lead to reduced spending on road-building, greatly increased GDP and lower unemployment. And the EU will more than likely step in to aid the investments, if not fully subsidize them, especially since Croatia is expected to join the European Union eventually and the projects reduce EU dependence on outside factors, such as Turkey and Serbia.

Janica Kostelic plans to compete in all five skiing disciplines

at the Winter Olympics

TURIN, Italy Feb 7, 2006 (AP)

The Croatian, who won three gold medals at the Salt Lake City Games four years ago, has battled bad knees throughout her career. But on Tuesday, her official Web site said "if Janica will be in optimal form … her competing in all those disciplines shouldn't be doubtful."

The site said Kostelic made the decision after consulting with her father and coach, Ante Kostelic, and national team director Vedran Pavlek.

Kostelic won the slalom, giant slalom and combined in Salt Lake City to become only the third Alpine skier to win three golds at a single games Toni Sailer in 1956 and Jean-Claude Killy in 1968 are the others.

This season on the World Cup tour, Kostelic became only the second woman to win five different disciplines in a season. She won the slalom Sunday in Ofterschwang, Germany, while fighting the flu.

Besides defending her golds in the slalom, giant slalom and combined, Kostelic will also compete in the super-G and downhill.

Stvarno bi se trebalo slamperaju u svim segmentima stati na kraj

Postajem staromodan, nisam vise u trendu, izgleda da me gazi vrijeme. Naime, sportski se dogadjaji, a i sportski objekti u mojoj okolici, izgleda, vise uopce ne rade zbog sporta, nego zbog glamura (pravog i laznog), zbog privatne promocije ili lokalnih politickih poena, a svime time se, tako mi se cini, 'zamagljuje" i nekakav novac. Sportski novac, predvidjen za sport, sportase i sportske objekte, da ne bude zabune.

Bazen u Gruzu, kad zakoracite u njega, frapira svojim bljestavilom, svjetlom, novim semaforom, plazma-monitorima za publiku, novim i udobnim stolcima. U prvom trenutku svatko ce reci da je to prototip modernoga bazena. No onda shvatite da su tzv. novinarske kabine (koje, jasno, izgledaju prvoklasno) zapravo potpuno neupotrebljive jer se iz njih bazen vidi samo kad nema nikoga u publici sto, logicno, nema nikakvoga smisla. Ali onaj koji je gradio bazen nije i o toj 'sitnici" bas vodio racuna. Kamere za TV prijenos takodjer 'ne vide" bazen i moraju se postaviti na posebno dogradjena (pa samim tim i potpuno nakaradna, suvisna i ruzna) postolja, zbog kojih sad dio mjesta za publiku postaje neupotrebljiv. Novinari, kako bi mogli raditi svoj posao i dalje sjede uz bazen, na mjestima gdje su sjedili i dok je nad Gruzom bio napuhan balon, kamere i dalje 'smetaju" publici, a jedino publika ima osjecaj vaznosti i glamura, gledajuci u plazma-monitorima usporene slike golova svojih ljubimaca (ako plazme rade!)... A o ostalom? O tome da je teretana toliko malena i niska da se neke vjezbe koje iziskuju dizanje utega iznad glave uopce ne mogu napraviti?

Kao i bazen u Utrinama, u Zagrebu. Predubok iz potpuno nepoznatih sportskih, estetskih pa i arhitektonskih razloga, pa trosi previse vode i previse klora, ulazi su preuski, radjeni za ritam u kojem bi samo jednom turnusu plivaca trebala 2 sata (a imaju 5 minuta) da se mimoidju s drugim kad bi se trudili to napraviti bez guranja ili da se nisu snasli, pa se presvlace na tribinama (!?). Ormarici za ostaviti stvari, ta minijatura cak i za Liliputance? To cak ni glamur nije. To je prvoklasni promasaj, ali novac je vec potrosen, politicki poeni mozda nisu osvojeni, ali sigurno nisu ni izgubljeni...

ATP turnir u Zagrebu nekoliko se dana u hodnicima zagrebackoga Doma sportova "sudarao" sa stolnoteniskim turnirom nominalno vecega ranga, a po imenima i ukupnom broju sudionika svakako. Dakle, ping-pong je za tenisace bio sportski nadmocniji bas u svakom segmentu. No to se ni po cemu zapravo nije vidjelo u hodnicima i okolici Doma sportova, pa ni u medijima. Sav glamur, sva pozornost, pa na kraju, ocito, i sav novac otisli su u blagajnu teniskoga turnira da bi se 10-ak dana trosili i na lokalni glamur, lokalnu promociju i sve prema popisu s pocetka. Jasan je i razlog - jaka promidzba i ciljano lobiranje stvorili su dojam kod prosjecnoga Zagrepcanina, a posredno i kod ulagaca da se dogadja nesto svjetski vazno. Sto realno bas i nije sasvim tocno. Uostalom, u teniskom svijetu, osim Ljubicica i Ancica (pobjednika Davis kupa), jos jedino ime predsjednika Organizacijskog odbora ima 'tezinu" (Goran Ivanisevic, ako niste znali). Ostali su igraci bliski vrhu svjetske ljestvice, ali.... 'Stos" s veleplakatima koji jos od nove godine 'prodaje" teniski turnir u Umagu (svake godine), a cim su dobili licenciju s plakatima (i agresivnom radio-tv-novinskom reklamom) je krenuo i ZG indoors, iznimno je vazan pocetak svakoga lobiranja i pripreme turnira. Tenisaci (a od njih i skijasi) su to odlicno naucili i svladali gradivo. Glamour par exellence! A sport?

U skladu s time, ne bi lose bilo da u akciji koju propagira trenutacni ministar i uz njega sef HOO-a, a to je izgradnja skolskih sportskih dvorana sirom Lijepe nase, arhitekti, projektanti i svi zainteresirani kazu poneko slovo o tome sto moderna sportska dvorana treba imati, sto mora, a sto bi bilo dobro da ima. I da pitaju, ako nisu sigurni. Jer (opet cu ja malo put Dubrovnika) kad nekome padne na pamet ideja da sagradi podzemno parkiraliste, a iznad njega sportsku dvoranu, naravno da cemo svi dignuti dva prstica odobrenja u zrak i zahvaliti takvome dobrocinitelju. No netko bi se trebao zapitati koji bi se to sport trebao upraznjavati u dvoetaznoj (?) sportskoj dvorani dimenzija polovice rukometnog igralista???? Rukomet na kat? Kosarka na jedan kos? Gimnastika bez zaletista? Ili samo sah?

Stvarno bi se trebalo slamperaju u svim segmentima stati na kraj i postaviti (zapravo - vratiti!) kriterije financiranja svega i svacega u sportu. Ili ce se i dalje, u duhu sportske krilatice "drpi gdje stignes" i "satri konkurenciju" nastaviti uzdizati hrvatski "sport"?

Biographic sketch

Fedor Kabalin appeared in summer 2002 with the Constantsa Opera in Romania and guest conducted the Vidin Philharmonic for third consecutive season, following his debut in Bulgaria with the Pleven Philharmonic in 1999. Before that, he spent 2 summers in China on a cultural exchange program working with Xi'an Conservatory Orchestra over a fortnight to prepare the concerts that concluded each week, conducted opera and symphony concerts in the Czech Republic for several seasons, and opera during 2 summers at Barga Festival in Italy. He served as music director of Midland (Michigan) Symphony Orchestra, regular conductor of the Garden State Ballet in New Jersey, conducted sound track recording for Chile Films, and guest conducted New Jersey, Detroit and Chilean National symphony orchestras.

Croatian born resident of the United States, after early music training in his native country, he received conducting diploma from the Vienna Music Academy, and graduate degrees in composition from Northwestern University and Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester NY. In his pedagogic activities, he taught at the Manhattan School of Music, served as music department chair at Kean University in New Jersey, Opera Theater music director and on the piano faculty at Indiana State University in Pennsylvania, and chaired theory department at the Music and Arts Institute in San Francisco where he also conducted orchestra concerts.

Among his compositions are background music for feature-length film in South America, while his works were performed in Europe and Western Hemisphere in concert and on radio, with some of the performing ensembles including Zagreb Philharmonic, New Jersey, Detroit, Louisville and Oklahoma symphony orchestras. He has also been active as orchestrator and arranger, and wrote extensively on music with book chapters, articles, reviews or record liner notes published by many prestigious journals and record labels.

The Divertimento for wind septet was composed for a Santiago / Chile National Music Conservatory anniversary and premièred on that occasion. The U.S. première was at an ISCM Chicago subscription concert, performed by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, with additional hearings at the Yaddo Music Period in Saratoga Springs and the University of Kansas Symposium in Lawrence. The North/South Consonance Ensemble Midwinter Winds concert on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 3 PM at the Christ and St. Stephen's Church, 120 W 69 St (between Broadway & Columbus), New York City is NYCity première of the work.
Its second movement, Lullaby is inscribed to composer's cousin MarĂ­a-Victoria, an infant at the time of the composition. The work's third movement also incorporates several ditties improvised by her father to the terms of endearment of his own invention to keep the baby amused.

Cubus Lux acquires Plava Vala and rights to build and operate marina on Uglijan

AIM listed casino operator Cubus Lux PLC, which currently operates three casinos in Croatia, has acquired Plava Vala, the company that owns the license to build and operate a marina on the island of Uglijan in Croatia.
Cubus Chairman, Gerhard Huber, said: “This acquisition is part of our goal of becoming the pre-eminent tourist and leisure business in Croatia. We have identified further leisure opportunities and have already started work on a proposal to establish one of the first golf resorts in the country.â€?
In 2004, Plava Vala (Blue Bay) d.o.o. signed a contract of concession to build a 203 berth marina, at Sutomiscica, on Ugljan, in the natural bay in the centre of the town. At the time, it was expected that the marina would be ready to receive the first yachts by the end of 2005 and would be completed by Easter 2006.

LONDON: Defending champion Croatia, Argentina, France, Russia, Belarus and Chile advanced to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup on Saturday by winning doubles rubbers to seal unbeatable 3-0 leads.

Survives

Croatia became the first titleholder in two years to survive the opening round when Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic rallied from 2-0 down to defeat Jurgen Melzer and Julian Knowle 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 8-6.
Croatia will host Argentina in April's quarterfinals. Last year they met in the semifinals.

The Austrians will need their homecourt advantage, the slow red clay, and then some against the Davis Cup defending champion Croatian team comprised of Ivan Ljubicic and Mario "Baby Goran" Ancic.

On Sunday, Croatian fans in Zagreb got a Davis Cup preview when Ljubicic easily handled the hot-handed Austrian Stefan Koubek in the final. Jurgen Melzer will join Koubek in shoring up the Austrian singles, with Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya likely taking up the doubles duty.

Melzer beat Ljubicic last year in their only career meeting but that was on the slick lawns at Wimbledon, and the Austrian has never faced Ancic. Koubek is now 3-3 versus Ljubicic, but those wins came before the Croat's confidence surged with his standing in the Top 10, and after injury has caused Koubek's ranking to plummet. As with Melzer, Ancic has likewise never faced Koubek.

The slower the dirt, the better chance the Austrians will have, so look for a mud bog in Graz and for the scrappy Melzer and Koubek to potentially make it interesting.
