Croatian teenager Karolina Sprem played another strong match Posted on Wed, Aug. 06, 2003 Sprem Advances to Quarters in Finland Associated Press
ESPOO, Finland - Croatian teenager Karolina Sprem played another strong match Wednesday, beating German veteran Barbara Rittner 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the clay-court Nordea Nordic Light Open.
Sprem, seeded eighth, routed her first opponent, Cristina Torrens Valero of Spain, 6-0, 6-0. Sprem next plays Petra Mandula, the fourth-seeded Hungarian who defeated Tatiana Perebiynis of Ukraine 6-2, 6-2.
Russia's Vera Douchevina advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 upset of third-seeded Czech Denisa Chladkova, a finalist last year. Douchevina, 16, has been the world's top-ranked junior and made the junior final at the French Open.
She's looking to become the second Russian teenager to win the Nordic Light Open. Svetlana Kuznetsova won last year in the inaugural event at Espoo, outside Helsinki.
Also, second-seeded Anna Pistolesi of Israel, Myriam Casanova of Switzerland, Marta Marrero of Spain and Jelena Kostanic of Croatia made the second round.

(E,H) Editorial Audio Visual History Usmena Povijest
|
Oral or/and Audio Visual History Usmena Predaja ili Audio Vizuelna Povijest Future Encyclopedia Buduca Enciklopedija Radio Station Lijepa Nasa as well as CROWN as well as any substantial information on Internet is a part of the future Encyclopedia. Today's Encyclopedia is an academic project, placed as an authority on the subjects that most of the people have no knowledge. Very important and very valuable and in many cases, like history interpretation, very inaccurate, but spoken as an authority.
CROWN will become a future Audio Visual Encyclopedia, like oral history. Not that that will be necessarily better of more accurate, but more democratic or more versatile, inclusive, then before. Internet is a begging of true democracy. What will it bring? Who knows, but at least we as a people have an opportunity and a privilege as well as obligation to our future generations, to write about ourselves as well as truth about Croatia.
I to uvijek s pozicije autoriteta.

US Library of Congress recognizes CROATIAN language
From: nadan.petri@morh.hr To: CroWorldNet@aol.com Just wanted to share great news with everybody, especially with all Croatian physicians at home and in the world. Thank you guys from CROWN for your support in this delicate matter. I would say that we did it! Many thanks and congratulations everybody!
CDR Nadan M. Petri, MD, PhD Naval Medical Institute of the Croatian Navy 21000 Split, p/o box 196 (HRM) Republic of Croatia
Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2003 16:00:56 -0400 From: "James Marcetich" MarcetiJ@mail.nlm.nih.gov To: nadan.petri@morh.hr
Dear Dr. Petri,
Wanted you to know that we have checked with the US Library of Congress to see if they have updated their language designations...and they have. Croatian and Serbian are now considered to be separate languages.
We will be working to correspondingly update the language designations in MEDLINE/PubMed, but it is likely to take some weeks to accomplish. The work will be done as soon as practically possible.
Thank you again for your correspondence.
Sincerely yours,
James Marcetich Head, Index Section National Library of Medicine 8600 Rockville Pike Bethesda, Maryland 20894
james_marcetich@nlm.nih.gov 301-496-3262 301-402-2433 (FAX) Op-ed Dear Nadan, Thanks to your persistence and a lead, battles like this, we win. Leverage that CROWN produces is something that we should've had long time ago, but better ever then never. The job is not done yet, but as I mentioned in my letter to the US Library of Congress: If they want to be backwards, that is their choice. What we are doing is inevitable and will be changed, regardless of what they say or think today or tomorrow. In a month, two, three, six or even 12, the world will recognize what we are fighting for. Name of the language is our right, not privilege. Longer they resist, longer they are part of the past and not the future that is more just and fair. Thank you again, Nenad

Arafat Al-Naim.

(E) Grgich Hills in Forbes Magazine
Wine of the Week Grgreat Grgich Nick Passmore At 80 years old, Mike Grgich has lost none of his enthusiasms--whether for charming leggy models 60 years his junior, or for making the superlative, age-worthy chardonnay he is famous for, he still approaches life with an infectious gusto. Now I don't know Mike well enough to comment on the former but I do know he is still making fabulous wine. A vast majority of white wine is meant to be drunk within a year or two of being produced. However, a very small percentage of the best chardonnay can go on improving for at least ten years, and coincidently, I recently got to taste two such wines within a few days of each other. It brought home to me not only just how great some chardonnay can be when it has a few years of bottle age on it, but how the best from California are equal to, or even surpass, fine Burgundy. | When To Drink: | Now | Breathing/ Decanting: | 30 minutes | | Grapes: | 100% chardonnay | | Appellation: | Napa Valley | | Region: | California | | Country: | U.S. | | Price: | Approximately $75, if you can find it | | Availability: | Extremely limited, probably auction only | | Web Site: | Grgich Hills | The first one I tried was this week's wine, Grgich Hills Chardonnay 1991, and the second, which will be the subject of next week's column, was from Chateau Montelena. These are two of the most storied names in California winemaking and curiously they are linked by history. In 1976, before he started his own winery, Mike Grgich was the winemaker at Montelena when its chardonnay won first prize at the famous Paris blind tasting that put California winemaking on the map. What I found most fascinating about the 1991 Grgich Hills Chardonnay was how it evolved the longer it was open. At first it was all tart green apples and bright citrus fruits--pleasant but nothing special, a one-dimensional wine. But just a few minutes later, it opened up, and hints of oak and vanilla emerged. Time went on, another glass was drunk, and the wine became increasingly interesting and complex. After half an hour it rounded out and softened; the bright fruit, so obvious at the beginning, was augmented by layers of other flavors: wood and spice, vanilla and honey, smoke and damp earth. Also, it now showed a finish that seemed to go on for ever. It really came into its own when the food arrived. This is absolutely not a cocktail wine, not an aperitif wine, but a wine that shows its subtle, nuanced complexity when paired with food. The 1991 is difficult to find and probably only available at auction. But Grgich is still making wonderful wine, so it will be a sound investment, for your palate, to buy a case or two of the current vintage (the 2000 sells for around $40 per bottle) and spend the next ten years anticipating the pleasures to come. Forbes Fact Although it sounds appropriately rustic, the origination of the name Grgich Hills is due more to happy coincidence than geography. The name of the winery is derived from, obviously, Mike Grgich's last name and that of his partner, Austin E. Hills, an heir to the Hills Bros. coffee company, now part of Sara Lee (nyse: SLE) | http://www.forbes.com/2003/08/06/cx_np_0806wow.html

CROATIAN COMMUNITY OF ASTORIA REMEMBERED HISTORIC DAY
Dan pobjede i domovinske zahvalnosti u hrvatskom kraljevskom gradu Kninu
August 5, 1995 Historic Croatian Day to Remember and Cherish - Croatian Community of Astoria just did that.
