New book from Croatian-American author

"Escape from Despair: A Croatian Family's Survival" is a memoir, set among Croatia's working-class during the communist era. This brutal and complex story depicts lives hemmed in by poverty and sexual abuse.

Bozena, an obedient, religious wife and her husband, Ivan, a violent alcoholic, struggle to survive with six children under the dictatorship of former Communist Yugoslavia. Dealing with hunger and sickness as part of their daily life, the children and Bozena manage to escape from Ivan. Unable to find a job and to make ends meet on a minimal income, the family is forced to deal with the black market and to escape from their bureaucratic country.

Thrilled and deeply grateful to finally reach America, the family has difficulty coping with the trauma of their past.

The author, Katarina Tepesh, is one ofthe six children.

The book is available at Amazon.com and is partially available online at www.tepeshbooks.com. Katarina Tepesh's official website is at www.katarinatepesh.com.

U New Yorku, gdje živi, piše intervjue, članke u ženskim časopisima, filmskim i književnim revijama, a povremeno prati i sportske događaje, tenis i New York City marathon. Njena knjiga Escape from Despair: A Croatian Family's Survival počinje kratkim pričama i člancima već objavljenim u malo drukčijoj verziji: "Anica, a Mail Order Bride from Croatia" / Anica, hrvatska "poštom naručena" nevjesta objavljena je na www.Croatia.org, "Babin Kuk" u Caprice magazinu; "Meeting A Millionaire/Susret s milijunašem u novinama The American Home esej "Father's Funeral/Očev sprovod i Raped by an Angel/ Silovana od jednog anđela objavljene su na www.QuietMountainEssays.com; među još nekim Katarininim esejima i člancima. "Yearning for Freedom in a Land of the Free"/ Žudjeti za slobodom u zemlji slobodnih u The Tapestry magazinu; Celebrating Women's History Month/ Slaveći mjesec ženske povijesti i Mother's Day/ Majčin dan u Great South Bay Magazineu, u novinama American Home.
Osim ove knjige, Katarina Tepesh se predstavila čitateljima u Americi i zanimljivim napisima kao što su: "A Walking Tour of Croatian History in New York," "Andrew Bogut Interview," "Two Players from the Bench," "American Scream and Palindrome," "Neither Red Nor Dead: Coming of Age in Former Yugoslavia," "V-Day, Stop Violence Against Women" i mnogim drugima koji su se pojavljivali na www.Croatia.org; "Woman Who Make a Difference" on www.matis.hr Katarina Tepesh je članica The International Women's Writing Guilda www.iwwg.org, također i Storytellers International Toastmasters Cluba i suradnica Croatian Book Cluba.
