“I Miss Communism by Ines Wurth and Mark Soper

Running time: about 70 minutes

My name is Ines Wurth and I am from Croatia.

It's not in Asia, but it is in Europe between east and west.
And it is a part of Yugoslavia. kind of.
And it is Communist. . . Well, kind of.

There are very few rules and regulations in communism. The freedom of an individual has no limits. The system provides basic needs and the foundation for any human being. Mother government owns everything. No need to be a grown up.

I miss Communism.
Kind of. Why? Because.

It all started four years ago. After a busy, hectic day, I mentioned to my boyfriend that I missed Communism and he passed Hagen Daaz Vanilla ice cream out of his nose.

East goes West; communism goes capitalism; atheism goes God. From Croatia to America and back, my story is about three generations of women who lived through three wars in a drama with intense comic moments that won't leave you untouched. It's what I was raised in, it's what I came to America to escape from, and it's what I ran back to.

I miss Communism.
It's about freedom of the spirit not the systems.
It's about a woman coming of age.
It's about religion.
It's about war.
It's about Oliver Twist.

Also, as you can see on the website I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!!

My theater in Edinburgh is affiliated with 59E59
Theaters in Manhattan, a very reputable theater in
NYC, on 59th and Park Av.
It's a brand new theater, amazingly designed by a
fellow Croatian, total coincidence, who won all kinds
of awards for the design of this building.
It looks pretty impressive I must admit.
You can go to their website if you're interested.
http://www.59e59.org/frameset.htm
or
http://www.primarystages.com/

They picked a few shows, mine being one, to have a run
in NY, as they call it, pre-Edinburgh.

I'm gonna be performing in NY for a week, from July
12-16th, in case you're there or you can tell friends
that live in NY.

I'm beyond excited. It's an amazing opportunity.

Thank you and have an amazing week.

IMOTSKI -www.ModroJezero.org

http://www.modrojezero.org/
Modro Jezero pages are pages about Imotski nature, history, and culture. The
pages contain an extensive collection of high quality photographs and other
multimedia. Modro jezero is the central subject of the pages, but the other
natural beauties like Red Lake, Lokviccicci lekes, river Vrljika, and
Biokovo mountain are also well represented. Imotski town quarters are
presented in detail with numerous photographs and accompanied descriptions.
The history pages deal with Imotski county, Imotski town, and 1000 years old
Imotski fortress separately. There are also extensive collections of etno,
cultural, and sports pages as well as a multitude of interactive maps.

engleskom govornom podruccju oko Thanksgiving praznika 2002-e.
detaljna istrazzivanja o prirodi i povjesti Imotskoga. Poccetkom 2004-e
stranicama dalmacija.modrojezero.org.

http://www.modrojezero.org/
Modro Jezero stranice obradjuju Imotsku prirodu, povjest i kulturu. Stranice
sadrže opsežnu kolekciju kvalitetnih fotografija, starih razglednica i mapa
o Imotskom i Imotskoj krajini.
Lokvicciccka jezera, rijeka Vrljika i planina Biokovo. Grad Imotski je
obradjen po svojim ccetvrtima uz detaljne legende. Povijesne stranice
posebno obradjuju Imotski, tvrdjavu Topanu i Imotsku krajinu. Na webu se
nalaze mnogobrojne interaktivne mape, kao i etno, kulturne i povjesne
stranice. Stranice su uglavnom pisane na Engleskom.

A Lunchtime Institution Set to Overstuff Its Last Po' Boy

By R. W. APPLE Jr.

Anthony and Gail Uglesich
Published: April 27, 2005
EW ORLEANS

SAM UGLESICH grew up among mariners and fishermen off the coast of Croatia on rocky Dugi Otok, whose name means "long island," surrounded by the azure waters of the Adriatic. Twice he set out for the United States. The first time, he jumped ship in New York, but was caught and sent home. The second time, he made his break in New Orleans, then as now a more permissive city, and got away with it.

Naturally enough, he opened a seafood restaurant in his adopted city, specializing in the local shrimp, soft-shell crabs, lake trout and oysters. The year was 1924, the place South Rampart Street; Louis Armstrong had played gigs a few doors away.

Three years later, he moved to a modest frame cottage on Baronne Street. There, as the neighborhood around them crumbled, he and his son, Anthony, along with Anthony's wife, Gail, gradually built a reputation of legendary proportions. Grander establishments like Galatoire's, Commander's Palace and Antoine's loomed larger in the guidebooks, but the exacting standards of little Uglesich's (pronounced YOU-gull-sitch's) - everything bracingly fresh from lake and gulf and bayou, nothing frozen or imported, and absolutely no shortcuts - generated greater buzz.

Without benefit of advertising, word of Uglesich's big, tan, glistening oysters, its sweet, plump crawfish balls, its searing shrimp Uggie and its overstuffed yet feather-light po' boys spread across the city and then across the country. It mattered not to most people that it took no credit cards and served neither dessert nor coffee.

Five days a week, 11 months a year, lines have formed outside the ramshackle building, which displays a sign from the long-defunct Jax Brewery in one window. On Good Friday this year, customers began arriving at 9 in the morning, even though the restaurant does not open for lunch, the only meal it serves, until 10:30. Soon there were more than 200 people in line, and the sun was setting as the last of the day's 400-odd clients were being served.

All this with just 10 tables inside and 6 on the sidewalk outside.

Soon Uglesich's will close forever, at least in its present form. Anthony and Gail Uglesich are exhausted, worn out by years of rising at 4:30 and working flat-out all day. Balding, bearlike, Mr. Uglesich, 66, told me he would shut the doors in mid-May, but he has renewed his liquor license, just in case he finds retirement miserable.

"I may go nuts," he said at the end of a particularly brutal day. "I doubt it, but I won't know until I try it. If I do climb the walls, I might try packaging our sauces for retail sale, or maybe do some catering - people are always offering me thousands of dollars to cook for their dinner parties - or reopen here for four days a week, with limited hours and a very limited menu, just appetizers. No more of this, though."

Mrs. Uglesich, 64, a petite woman whose regular customers call her Miss Gail, put the situation bluntly. "Our bodies are telling us we can't take it anymore," she said in the soft, liquid accent that marks her as a New Orleans native. "Anthony has missed only two days' work since we were married, and that was 41 years ago."

Neither of the Uglesiches' two children - Donna, 40, a businesswoman, and John, 35, author of "Uglesich's Restaurant Cookbook" (Pelican Publishing) - has shown any desire to take over the business. "It's too hard," Mrs. Uglesich said.

With many New Orleans restaurants, including some of the most famous ones, relying these days on frozen crawfish tails and frozen soft-shell crabs and on shrimp and crabmeat imported from Thailand or China, Uglesich's stands out more than ever.

"Look," Mr. Uglesich said, peering through wire-rimmed glasses, "90 percent of the shrimp eaten in this country is imported. Local crawfish costs me $7 a pound, compared with $2.50 imported. People in restaurants here know they can get away with things. But I'd pay $10 for Louisiana crawfish, if that's what it takes. Otherwise, what's going to happen to our local fishermen? When we're gone, I don't know."

» (H) ATP TURNIR CROATIA OPEN UMAG 25-31. srpnja 2005
By Nenad N. Bach | Published 05/9/2005 | Companies | Unrated

ATP TURNIR CROATIA OPEN UMAG
1990.- 2005.

www.croatiaopen.hr

događaj u povijesti ATP-a.

Croatia Open jedini je predmet poslovanja tvtke Istra – Golf d.o.o. u sklopu hotelsko – ugostiteljske tvrtke Istraturist d.d. Umag . “Istra Golfâ€?, a u daljnjem tekstu Croatia Open.

ProÅ¡le godine Umag i Hrvatska obilježili su 15 godina turnira Croatia Open i 10 godina neponovljive sage o jednom tenisaču i jednom turniru – deseti uzastopni dolazak

Priznanje ovom velikom igracu, a nadasve promicatelju Hrvatske prošle je godine, predsjednik republike Hrvatske, gospodin Stjepan Mesic osobno urucio dana 21. srpnja u svom Uredu uz prisustvo Mark Milesa, CEO ATP, De Erice Gomez-Acebo, Sebastian, Veleposlanik Španjolske, Carlos Gomez, regionalni direktor Sol Melia Hrvatska d.o.o., Gordana Tomicic, predsjednica Uprave Istraturista d.d. I Slavka Rasbergera, direktor Croatia Open Umag.
Franjo Luković, predsjednik Uprave TDR-a, gospodin Ante Vlahović, predsjednik Uprave INA-e, gosp. Tomislav Dragičević, predsjednik Uprave Podravke, gosp. Darko Marinac i ostali.

O značaju turnira govori I činjenica o medijskoj zastupljenosti turnira.

Istraturist is a company with a forty years tradition of tourism.

Op-ed

I have been guest at Sol Koralj Hotel last year, participating at the concert  "Najbolje od Nas"  - Toni Cetinski and Friends. From food, to hospitality everyone at the hotel passed the test of the tourist from the west. I wholeheartedly recommend your staying at those hotels, especially if you are visiting during Croatia Open, because it is just few minutes walk as they say Lungomare. Boardwalk near the blue Adriatic sea.
