The Petris Glagolitic Miscalleny from 1468, a top monument of Croatian written culture.
Kept in the National and University Library in Zagreb. It has 700 pp.

A famous štokavian-kajkavian-čakavian sentence contained in the Petrisov Miscellany, written in the Croatian Glagolitic Script:
I reku jemu anjeli vražji ki ga budu držali: čto se žalostiš ubogi človeče, i kai se mećeš i zač trepećeš.
Placed on 338 v (in line 6 from below), according to the numeration at the bottom of each right-hand page. The source of the photo is glagoljica.hr.
Many thanks to dr. Sandra Požar, Zagreb, for her info about the precise placement of the sentence in the Petris Miscellany.

Golden formula of Croatian language

The golden formula of the Croatian language "ČA-KAJ-ŠTO" is a Croatian intangible cultural asset listed on the List of Intangible Cultural Property of the Republic of Croatia in November 2019. The author, Dr Drago Štambuk, is proponent and author of the concept of preservation of knowledge and practices provided by the close connection of Croatian language.

The name itself expresses the interconnectedness of the speech of the three dialects of the Croatian language, Chakavian, Kajkavian and Stokavian, which is greater than previously claimed. The meeting will show that the Formula covers all dialectical diversity, as well as the history of the Croatian language, with all three stylizations ranging from phonology, through vocabulary to syntax (eg three-voice system; speaking verbs; interrogative sentences). The best way to demonstrate this unifying strength of the Golden Formula is to create relevant computer corpora of dialectal and historically-linguistic material, as well as to process data quickly and accurately, and the Conference Computer Linguistics and the Golden Formula of the Croatian Language Cha-what will seek to answer how to achieve this.

Programme

The Scientific Conference on Computer Linguistics and the Golden Formula of the Croatian Language will be held on May 22 to 23, 2020 in Osijek. The conference has been organized by the Mathematical Department and the Faculty of Philosophy of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University.

The aim of the conference is to bring together dialectologists, Croatian language history researchers, methodologists and computer experts who are researching the interconnectedness of Croatian dialects at all language levels and the contrasting approach to teaching them in schools. The wish is to present the Golden Formula of Croatian language (ča-kaj-što) via a syntactic-semantic web framework that already exists for standard Croatian. The conference will examine:

  • the phonology, morphology and vocabulary of each of the three dialects
  • history of the Croatian language
  • dialectological topics in Croatian language teaching
  • corpus lexicography and lexicology
  • difficulties in digitizing and maintaining the corpus and vocabulary online
  • computer linguistics in linguistic integration

Invited speakers:
