Predsjednica Kolinda Grabar Kitarović u New Yorku se susrela s bivšim predsjednikom SAD-a, Billom Clintonom. Priliku da osnaži važne diplomatske veze predsjednica je imala na svečanosti službene objave izvješća jednogodišnje inicijative "No Ceilings: Full Participation Project", koju su potaknule zaklade Billa, Hillary i Chelsea Clinton te Billa i Melinde Gates.
Elegantna na savršenom engleskom, hrvatska predsjednica je briljirala u New Yorku, a njena fotografija s bivšim predsjednikom SAD-a, objavljena na njenom Facebook profilu, je u samo sat vremena osvojila više od pet tisuća lajkova.
Ni jedna zemlja, narod ni regija ne mogu ostvariti napredak ako se ne poštuju prava žena, koje čine polovicu svjetskog stanovništva, a bez sudjelovanja polovice svjetskog stanovništva ne mogu se ostvariti ciljevi i postići željeni rezultati, rekla je Grabar Kitarović u dojmljivom govoru popraćenom velikim pljeskom.
"U mnogim mjestima na svijetu nije se dobro roditi kao žena kad su u pitanju mir i sigurnost, jer život žene vrijedi manje i od života koze", rekla je hrvatska predsjednica, istaknuvši kako ljudi u Hrvatskoj iz osobnog iskustva znaju kako rat može utjecati na žene, među kojima su mnoge bile žrtve zlostavljanja, mučenja, ponižavanja i silovanja.
Ovom prilikom, o tome što znači biti žena, Grabar Kitarović je imala priliku popričati i s državnom tajnicom Hillary Clinton, koja je ujedno bila i moderatorica susreta.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic will be at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday for an event marking International Women's Day and the 20th anniversary since the adoption of the Bejing Declaration and Platform for Action, her office announced in a press release on Thursday. During her visit, the president will also meet with representatives of the Croatian community in New York.
Grabar-Kitarovic will chair a panel entitled "Access to quality education and skills development as tools for empowerment of women and girls". She is due to meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and General Assembly President Sam Kahamba Kutesa.
Over the weekend, Grabar-Kitarovic will meet with business people and investors from the Croatian community in New York, and will join members of this community at Sunday Mass in the Croatian parish of Saints Cyril and Methodius and Saint Raphael.
On Monday, the last day of her visit, Grabar-Kitarovic will attend an international conference on gender equality, organised by the Clinton Foundation.
After her first official trip abroad, to Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 3, the newly-elected president of Croatia will make an official visit to Germany on March 17, where she is expected to meet with German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel.
