Perkovic took the lead in the second round with 68.11m and added one metre in the next for what proved to be the winning distance.

Russia's Darya Pishchalnikova won silver with a throw of 67.56m in the penultimate round.

China's world champion Li Yanfeng took bronze, and Beijing champion Stephanie Brown Trafton of the US was fourth.

The Croatian Sandra PERKOVIC took the lead of the competition in the 2nd round with 68,11m and was out of reach of all the other competitors, improving her personal best with 69,11m in the 3rd round for a clear win. She had also a much better control of her technique and trajectories than the other throwers. The 2nd was finally the Russian Darya PISCHALNIKOVA with 67,56m in the 5th round taking the silver medal from the Chinese LI Yanfeng who had only one good throw with 67,22m in the 2nd.

Two Croatian beauties (and not only beauties): Sandra Perković with Blanka Vlašić, distingushed Croatian high-jumper.
Blanka Vlašić was proclaimed the best female athlete in the world for 2010.

The Olympic web site in London does not offer any video recording about the winning throw of Sandra Perković
and the ceremony of awarding the gold medal, available for watchers in Europe and Asia (5th August 2012).

The most successful Croatian women in Olympic Games till now is Janica Kostelić, Croatian skier,
who won three gold medals and one silver at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
This result is still unsurpassed in general in Winter Olympic Games among women.
