About the book

„In recent years in Croatia and Bosnia, books have been published about political refugees persecuted by the infamous Yugoslavian Secret Service, 'UDB'. All of these books also mention my name.“ Mijo Juric explains the reason for this in his book.

In colourful language he describes his childhood in a Bosnian village and of how at the age of 17 he ran into problems with the secret service. He tells of his years at the idyllic Dominican monastery in the town of Bol on the island of Bra;, about his sympathies for the Croatian student's movement, his imprisonment, and his daring escape to Austria where he hoped to live in freedom and safety. The ideals of the Croatian student's movement however find little interest in the West and the secret service is still pursuing him to this very day.

Following years of persecution by the Communist Secret Service, Mijo Juric finds refuge in a Dominican monastery where he begins to pen his story – a testimony which proves that the notion of a dictatorship with a human face, as Tito's Yugoslavia was called in the West, does not exist.
