35. obljetnica Hrvatske Katolicke Misije u New Yorku
 

KONCERT: Povodom proslave 35. obljetnice Hrvatske Katolicke Misije u New Yorku na prigodan nacin bit ce obiljezena i 100-ta obljetnica rodjenja velikog hrvatskog skladatelja Borisa Papondopula. Na koncertu prije svecane mise njujorski ansambl "St. Raphael Cappella" izvest ce Papandopulovu skladbu Impresije za puhace. Bit ce izvedena i cuvena Sinfonietta op. 10 Lisztova ucenika i romanticnog skladatelja Joachima Raffa, jedno od monumentalnih djela za puhace. St. Raphael
Cappella sastoji se od vrhunskih profesionalnih glazbenika Vojne Akademije SAD-a West Point kao i od povremenih clanova iz Julliard School of Music u New Yorku. Glazbeni ravnatelj i dirigent sastava je prof. Drago Bubalo, koji je od 1999. - 2003. djelovao u RH kao dirigent Orkestra Hrvatske vojske.

MISA. Tijekom Svecane Sv. Mise pjevat ce se poznata Hrvatska Misa don Sime Marovica, kapelnika Splitske Katedrale. Misa je skladana za soliste, muski ansambl, mjesoviti zbor, orgulje i orkestar, te je praizvedena tijekom posjete Sv. Oca Ivana Pavla II Splitu 1998. godine. Nastupa Hrvatski Zbor u New Yorku (novi pjevacki sastav od 50-tak clanova kojeg je okupio zupnik don Robert Zubovic), Klapa Astoria, Rade .... i don Robert Zubovic kao solisti, a uz pratnju puhackog orkestra "St. Raphael Cappella" pod ravnanjem Drage Bubala.

Ivo Karlovic beat No. 3 seed Tommy Robredo

Ivo Karlovic nezadrzivo je projurio medu cetiri najbolja tenisaca na 380.000 dolara vrijednome ATP turniru u Las vegasu. Div sa Salate veceras je sa 7:6 (4) i 6:4 pobijedio trecega nositelja i 18. igraca svijeta, Spanjolca Tommyja Robreda. To je bio drugi sudar ove dvojice tenisaca i druga pobjeda Zagrepcanina, koji je prvi put slavio na zemlji u Rimu 2004. godine.

Tijekom citavog dvoboja Karlovic je sigurno drzao svoj pocetni udarac, Robredo nije uspio doci niti do jedne jedine prilike za break. S druge strane, Spanjolac je uspio prvi set dovesti do odlucujuce igre, ali jedan mini-break bio je dovoljan Karlovicu za osvajanje te dionice.

Odmah u prvome gemu drugoga seta Karlovic je izborio prvu priliku za oduzimanje servisa, ali ju nije iskoristio. Propusteno je ispravio kod rezultata 3:3, kada je ostvario jedini break u mecu, a zatim je bez problema jos dva puta drzao svoj pocetni udarac.

U polufinalu Karlovic ce igrati protiv pobjednika dvoboja izmedu petog nositelja Amerikanca Jamesa Blakea i Danca Kennetha Carlsena.

To je drugo Karlovo polufinale u karijeri. Najveci uspjeh ove godine bilo mu je cetvrtfinale Zagreb Indoorsa, gdje je izgubio od Austrijanca Stefana Koubeka. Dosad mu je najveci uspjeh u pojedinacnoj konkurenciji finale u londonskome Queen's Clubu prosle godine.

Ove je sezone vrlo dobar bio u paru, pa je prosli tjedan u Memphisu osvojio svoj prvi naslov uopce u kombinaciji s Juznoafrikancem Chrisom Haggardom.

LAS VEGAS -- Ivo Karlovic beat No. 3 seed Tommy Robredo, and top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt cruised to an easy victory Friday in the quarterfinals of the Tennis Channel Open.

Playing in winds gusting from 30-40 mph, Karlovic downed Robredo 7-6 (4), 6-4. Hewitt made the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Karlovic, a 6-foot-10 Croatian, dominated his match with hard serves, some surpassing 140 mph.

"I was not trying to think about the wind," Karlovic said. "I was trying to concentrate on my game. I was happy that I won. I'm playing well, but with the wind it's difficult for me to play to my potential."

Iva Gersic Named MWC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

This is New Mexico's second weekly honor for the 2006 season

Feb. 24, 2006

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Junior Iva Gersic was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week announced yesterday by the league office yesterday Feb. 23. This is the second time a Lobo has received this award, the first being Ola Abou-Zekry Feb. 16.

Gersic, a native of Koprivnica, Croatia, helped the No. 38 Lobos to victories against Oklahoma State University and rival New Mexico State University. On Friday Feb. 17, the 3rd ranked duo of Gersic and Maja Kovacek defeated NMSU 8-4. At the No. 2 singles spot she defeated NMSU's Edine van Beusekom (6-2, 6-2).

Saturday Feb. 18, the 3rd ranked duo was the only team to defeat OSU in doubles action with an 8-3 victory. Gersic rallied her team in singles play to help New Mexico come back and win five of the six singles points. She played at the No. 1 singles spot defeating OSU's Iryna Tkachenko (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).

New Mexico ended the weekend defeating NMSU 6-1 and OSU 5-2 giving them six consecutive wins.

2003-04 - Freshman Season

Standout newcomer for UNM ...tied for first on the team for most singles wins ...finished season with an overall singles record of 28-8 ...competed mainly at the No. 2 singles spot ...compiled a doubles record of 33-4 at the No. 2 position with teammate Maria Ruiz-Fabrega ... broke the record for most combined wins in one year with 61 ...ended the season at No. 111 in the nation for singles ...ranked No. 7 in the Central Region for singles and No. 9 in the region for doubles with Ruiz-Fabrega ...was awarded MWC Player of the Week two times (January 29 and April 7) ...made the all-MWC team selection for singles and doubles ...earned all-MWC academic honors.

My name is Julia! I am studying Eastern European Studies and History at
Berlins Freie University and currently I'm writing a paper on "what do
students from Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia,
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia think
about the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia?"
To find this out I am now undertaking a survey. I would be very happy,
if you could take a few minutes to fill out the attached survey or send
