IVICA KOSTELIC PRVI U VELESLALOMU, NIKA FLEISS CETVRTA U SLALOMU

Ivica Kostelic Wins in ALLEGHE

Thomas Draggabe gotovo dvije sekunde.

Time je nabolji hrvatski skijas potvrdio dobru formu uoci nedjeljnog

jakoj konkurenciji najboljih austrijskih skijasica. Prva je bila Austrijanka
Carina Raich (1:26.41), ispred Novozelandanke Claudie Riegler (1:28.13) i sun
arodnjakinje Christine Sponring (1:28.67). Mlada Samoborcanka sa 1:28.77 bila
je cetvrta, a iza sebe je ostavila ugledne slalomasice Karin Koellerer i
Sabine Egger.

Slalom je vozen u vrlo losim uvjetima, jer organizator nije mogao urediti
stazu zbog novog snijega. Zato i nije nastupila Rijecanka Ana Jelusic,

CROATIAN CHRISTMAS IN AMERICA
By Sjor Adam Eterovich
Christmas is a very happy time of year for Croatians and the celebration of
Christmas. Croatians express themselves thru their food and cuisine. These
recipes are a very important part of their culture and have been passed down
for generations. Bozo Bozic says “the ingedients contain no fat or chemical
additives and have been approved by the Hrvatski Institute Za Pijani”.

CROATIAN VIRGINS BRIDAL RIBBONS
(Hrstule)
6 eggs
1/2 cube butter
1 tablesoon oil
6 tablesoons sugar
1 tablespoon lemon rind
1 tablespoon salt
6 cups flour, unbleached
2 tablespoons sour cream
3 tablespoons plum brandy
3 tablespoons brandy
3 tablespoons whiskey
3 tablespoons gin
3 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix together eggs, butter, sugar, oil, and flavors. Use blender or wooden
spoon until well blended. Add flour and knead until well blended.

Divide into four balls, working each ball until smooth for about 5-10
minutes. When handling dough, dust with flour to keep from getting sticky.
Place each ball into a container with lid for about 2 hours or overnight.
Keep covered at room temperature.

Heat oven and turn off. Place balls in lukewarm oven for 1 hour. Roll out
first ball from center to edges, turning as necessary, until thin. Cut into
into strips 1 1/2 “ wide. Hang strips on sheet or tablecloth over backs of
chairs. Stretch each strip before hanging. This will allow for slight drying.
Repeat with other balls.

Cut each strip and make 2 bows or knots and drop into moderately hot oil
turning to keep from darkening. When a light golden color, remove from oil,
drain and place on tray. When all have been fried, use equal amounts of
granulated and powdered sugar in sifter to dust finished Hrstule. Will keep
for several weeks.
BRAC DOUGHNUT HOLES---THE HOLE, NOT THE DOUGHNUT
(Prsurate)

about a quart of hot water. Beating as you go, and sides are cleaned of
batter. Whip the batter thoroughly with the wooden spoon and add water until
the mixture begins to ball. Gradually add:

1 cup raisins
1 cup sugar
1/2 Army cup brandy or whiskey, or vodka or gin or scotch or cognac
or...........
1/2 nutmeg, grated
Zest of 1 lemon (grated peel)
2 tsp. vanilla

Blend in and whip 1/2 cup tepid water in which you let soak 6 teaspoons of
dried yeast as you begin the recipe. Let batter stand (about 15 to 20 minutes
while oil heats). Heat about 1 1/2 plus quarts light cooking oil in pan.
Whip the dough again. Have teaspoon and cup warm water handy.
When oil is hot enough (stops speaking), take a small fistful of dough and
squeeze upward a ball about double, filling the teaspoon that had been dipped
in the warm water, then drop in hot oil. Continue, dipping spoon in water
before scraping off the ball of dough, until your pan surface is nicely
filled but not crowded. Whip some more air into your dough. Turn your
prsurati when they are golden brown. When both sides are golden brown,
remove and let cool slightly before rolling in confectioners fine sugar to
coat.

Predstavnici nositelja projekta Ivica Pancic u ime Ministarstva hrvatskih
branitelja Domovinskog rata, Mirko Galic u ime HRT-a, Juraj Hrvacic u ime
Narodnog radija, Ivica Mudrinic ispred HT-a i Ninoslav Pavic ispred EPH-a,
znacaju i ciljevima.
producentica projekta, Andreja Pavlovic, glasnogovornica Ministarstva

tridesetero gluhe djece hrvatskih branitelja vracen sluh. Cijena jedne

umjetne puznice", poziv na broj 111946-1;
- uplatama na devizni ziro-racun - Privredna banka Zagreb d.d.
702000-9182800-132344-1388;

potvrdila najveca imena hrvatskog estradnog, kulturnog i sportskog zivota.

gospodarskih subjekata, drzavnih institucija i samih gradjana. Stoga, u ime
novinarima.

Najavljujuci ucesce HRT-a u projektu, Mirko Galic, njegov direktor, rekao
sukladno snazi, brzini i dometu elektronskih medija ulozit cemo maksimalne
napore da akcija uspije.

Govoreci o ulozi Hrvatskog telekoma u akciji "Dajmo da cuju", Ivica Mudrinic
je naglasio: Nasa uloga je u prvom redu, sukladno nasim tehnickim
raspolaganje gradjanima u realizaciji plemenitih ciljeva poput ovog.

To
je akcija svih gradjana Hrvatske, i upravo u toj cinjenici lezi njezina
najveca vrijednost.
velicinu, snagu i utjecaj, nasa obveza i najmanje sto mozemo uciniti.

» (E) Croatian sensation in World Cup skiing made HISTORY in Aspen

NY Times. John Kraljic

Croatian shocks men's slalom field with Aspen win

By David Leon Moore

USA TODAY

ASPEN, Colo. -- There's another Croatian sensation in World Cup skiing,

this time on the men's tour.

Ivica Kostelic, the older and largely ignored brother of 19-year-old

defending women's World Cup champion Janica Kostelic, stormed into the

spotlight Sunday by winning a World Cup men's slalom at Aspen Mountain

in 1 minute, 38.81 seconds.

The result was historic and as unexpected as any World Cup finish in

years. Kostelic, 22, has spent more time in rehab than on the slopes,

having accumulated four major knee injuries since 1998.

His best previous result in a World Cup was 21st, and Sunday he started

way back in the field -- 64th out of 75 skiers.

But he skied as flawlessly as his little sister and won with the highest

bib number in a slalom race in World Cup history.

After his victory over second-place Giorgio Rocca of Italy and

third-place Mario Matt of Austria, Kostelic's mother, Marisa, beamed in

the finish area. ''Last year it was my daughter,'' Marisa said,

referring to Janica's slalom victory in Aspen. ''This year it is my son.

We love Aspen.''

Aspen felt likewise, showering the modest, oft-injured skier with warm

ovations.

''I feel like I'm still in a dream,'' he said an hour after the race.

''But it looks like it's real. It looks like I won.''

Ivica often trains with his champion sister, who has won 12 World Cup

races. ''I'm her rabbit,'' he said. ''She catches my times, but I'm

better than the rest of the girls, I guess.''

Sunday, he was better than the guys, too. ''That's what dreams are made

of,'' said Paul Casey Puckett, who posted the top American finish, 14th.

Today, Aspen hosts another men's slalom, the last major ski race in the

USA until the Salt Lake City Olympics in February.

» (E,H) Ivica Kostelic First in ASPEN Ivica Kostelic PRVI U ASPENU
By Nenad N. Bach | Published 12/2/2001 | Sports | Unrated
Ivica Kostelic First in ASPEN
ASPEN, CO, UNITED STATES : Ivica Kostelic of Croatia celebrates his victory
in the World Cup Slalom 25 November, 2001, at Aspen, Colorado. Racing from
the 64th position Kostelic won the race with a time of 1:38.81 seconds.

Subject: Ivica Kostelic PRVI U ASPENU

PRVI SLALOM SKIJASA ZA SVJETSKI KUP U AMERICKOM ASPENU ZAVRSIO SENZACIONALNOM
POBJEDOM HRVATSKOG SKIJASA IVICE KOSTELICA

pobijedio! Drznuo se, u stilu svoje sestre, odrzati skolu skijanja usred
najmondenijega svjetskog zimskog centra, Aspena u Coloradu.
Svjetskoga kupa. No, njegovo je vrijeme moralo doci.

publike nestalo, a kamere su odavno zavrsile prijenose prve voznje.
Fenomenalna, mekana i precizna voznja, 49 stotinki sekunde zaostatka, miris
senzacije! Matt, Aamodt, Rocca, Schilchegger, Albrecht, Kosir, Kostelic...
Sale vise nije bilo.

plasmanom. Ali, 1.22 sekunde prednosti!?

Ocito, nas je skijas zadao pretezak zadatak sljedecoj sestorici. Kosir,
Albrecht, Schilchegger, Rocca, Aamodt, Matt! Sekstet asova, ali - u borbi za
drugo mjesto! Ivica je fenomenalan, senzacionalan pobjednik. Sa startnim
brojem 64. Nitko i nikada dosada.

Joj, svi
smo sokirani, ovo stvarno... - u potpunom transu pricao je Vedran Pavlek,
direktor skijaske reprezentacije nakon Ivicinog trijumfa.

Sve se izvrtilo i Ivicinoj glavi, posve smo sigurni. Ozljeda jedna, pa
druga, treca, cetvrta. Dvije teske upravo u Coloradu (Beaver Creek).
novim savovima, ovog puta vrati s jednim pravim rezultatom. To nije pravi

slalomasa za Svjetski kup, on trenutacno vodi i u ukupnom poretku! Sa 103
boda u dvije utrke.

» (E) Kucan urges Croatians to sign border deal. Do they know
By Nenad N. Bach | Published 12/2/2001 | Politics | Unrated
Slovenia's Kucan urges Croats to sign border deal

ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Slovene President Milan Kucan urged Croatia on
Wednesday to avoid international arbitration and ratify a border deal with
Slovenia, vital for the European integration prospects of the two neighbours.

"Both countries are mature and responsible enough to be able to arrange their
relations on their own," Kucan told Croatian parliament in an address during
his two-day visit.

"They do not need special envoys and there is no reason to burden the
international community with our problems," he said.

The two former Yugoslav republics must resolve a set of open issues prior to
their integration into the EU. Slovenia is among front-running candidates to
join, possibly as early as 2004, and Croatia signed an associate membership
deal last month.

Ratifying the land-and-sea border accord reached by Croatian Prime Minister
Ivica Racan and Slovene Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek in July is a priority.

Other issues include a jointly-owned nuclear power plant at the Slovene town
of Krsko and money owed to Croatians by Slovenia's Ljubljanska Banka from
before Yugoslavia's 1991 split.

Racan told reporters on Wednesday each issue should be dealt with separately.

"We agreed that the things we currently cannot resolve, that is the borders,
should not stand in the way of resolving other issues," he said after meeting
Kucan.

Earlier this year, Croatia's parliament refused to endorse the border deal,
saying it gave Slovenia too large a part of Croatia's northern Adriatic
waters in the Piran bay.

Drnovsek has said the failure to ratify the border agreement may endanger
efforts to resolve the other issues.

Croatia and Slovenia jointly proclaimed independence from the Socialist
Yugoslav federation in 1991. Their relations have been strained ever since
and a precise border was never agreed.

There is no rush on this issue. Ljubljanska Banka and Krsko on the other hand
ARE a rush issue. Does our Croatian Government know this? If President Kucan
is so eager to sign a treaty, he should show some good will (read respect)
and solve two big problems like Krsko and Ljubljanska banka before any other
discussions about the borders. Does our Croatian Government know how to
handle this?

» (E) Anyone Going to Dubrovnik in MayJune 2002
By Nenad N. Bach | Published 12/2/2001 | Miscellaneous | Unrated
Hi. I'm a music professor at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I

was supposed to go on a music tour of Slovenia and the Czech Republic, but

it was called off after 9/11. This left me with some disposable cash and a

certain amount of time. I'm not Croatian, but over

the years have had friends and co-workers who are C-Amer. I decided that if

I wanted to go anywhere, it would be the place they've always talkedabout --

Dubrovnik (probably for one week). I am trying to find other people who may

be going there around the end of May.

Could you please let me know if there is any way I can hook up with anyone

going at the same time? This is a once-in-a-lifetime for me and I'm very

hopeful. I've never gone out of the country by myself alone and would rather

not if I can help it. (I usually am in a music group...)

Thanks for any help.

A small amount of effort can achieve a lot... for a while the BBC had been
publishing stories about Croatia with links to their special report on
Yugoslavia (i.e. post-Milosevic Serbia) and also linking to the BBC World
Service in Serbian. Philip Magas of the CIO sent an e-mail questioning these
links to Croatian stories. Here is the response:

Dear Mr Magas
Thank you for your email and the point you raise.
I have added our World Service Croatian news to the links on the
story, and it should now appear on all future versions.
The original Serbian link was added because it was on a mini-section
dedicated to Milosevic himself, and absolutely not because we in any way
fail to respect Croatia or any other ex-Yugoslav state as independent
nations.
WIth thanks again, and best wishes

Subject: DUBROVNIK STORY
Dear Sir/Madam,
Why is it the link to World Service news on the
story about a Yugoslav general in the Hague over the bombing of the Croatian

city of Dubrovnik is only for BBC News in Serbian?
Why not BBC News in Croatian?
Croatia is no longer a part of Yugoslavia and hasn't
been for a decade, but you only seem interested in the "Future of
Yugoslavia" and pay little attention to Croatia or Bosnia as nations in
their own right.

OIL PROJECT ADVANCES Russia advanced an oil pipeline project to

ship Russian crude directly to Western European markets; the oil will go

through the Croatian pipeline system to that country's Adriatic Sea port

of Omisalj. In a meeting with Croatian officials, the Russian energy

minister, Igor Yusufov, agreed to guarantee shipments of Russian crude

for the pipeline and to hold talks with other participating countries.

Under the project, pipeline and storage equipment would be upgraded to

ship 100,000 barrels of oil a day from Russia's main oil artery into

Central Europe to the Croatian oil terminal by 2003.
