A unique film... Funny, witty and clever
Evan Oppenheimer and Nenad Bach at the Dubrovnik Film Festival JUSTICE
"A genuine surprise!" - The New York Times
JUSTICE was the first film to deal with life in New York after 9/11, and it was rapturously received at its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was released theatrically in New York City, where it broke indie theater box office records (and was held over three times).
A film that delicately blends comedy and drama, JUSTICE tells the story of a comic book writer, Drew Petitte, who has been greatly affected by the death of a good friend in the World Trade Center attack. As a tribute -- and an attempt to do something constructive -- he creates a new comic book hero, a hero based on an (unwitting) real-life New Yorker. But when a Village Voice writer comes sniffing around the story, Drew finds himself hiding a battery of secrets...
Admirably subtle...A likable drama that draws its three stories together in a quietly effective climax. -- TV Guide
Palladino is a strong lead, and there's no denying the film's emotional core. -- The New York Daily News
After American Splendor how about another funny-sad rumination on making sense of a crazy world through the comics? That would be JUSTICE...Oppenheimer [is] an extraordinary filmmaker. -- Cleveland Int'l Film Festival
A terrific cast...strong and appealing actors who allow Oppenheimer to create subplots through charming vignettes about a range of New York encounters...JUSTICE is a movie for adults who understand that comics haven't been kids' stuff for nearly a generation now, and for anyone who wants to balance idealistic dreams with daily struggles. -- New Haven Advocate
Oppenheimer manages to successfully pull off an extraordinarily delicate balance of humor and tragedy... He cleverly pulls everything together with a great ending that completely caught me off-guard. A bittersweet, funny and thoughtful film. -- The Detroit Metro Times
A unique film...Funny, witty and clever, the film knows when to ring in the tears and when to pull at your heart strings. If you get a chance to see this one, do it. -- The Kent Stater
All praise Evan Oppenheimer for daring to acknowledge what too many people tiptoe around: that black humor is often the best way to deal with grief. -- The Flick Filosopher (flickfilosopher.com)
JUSTICE features a number of renowned actors, including:
ERIK PALLADINO -- Erik starred as Sergeant Scream in the FX series "Over There". He was one of the leads on "ER" for three years, playing Dr. Dave Mellucci. MICHAEL JAI WHITE -- Michael played the lead character in the hit movie Spawn. He starred (and co-wrote) the recent indie hit Black Dynamite. AJAY NAIDU -- Ajay starred in the cult hit movie Office Space. He has also appeared in movies ranging from Suburbia to K-Pax to Bad Santa. DAPHNE RUBIN-VEGA -- Nominated for Tony Awards for "Rent" and "Anna in the Tropics". On film, she's co-starred in Wild Things and Flawless. MICHAEL EALY -- Michael starred as Ricky in Barbershop and Barbershop 2, as well as 2 Fast 2 Furious, Oprah Winfrey's "Their Eyes Were Watching God", and Seven Pounds. CATHERINE KELLNER -- Catherine's first movie was Six Degrees of Separation. She played Nurse Lt. Barbara in Pearl Harbor. MARISA RYAN -- Marisa's career began on "Major Dad". She has since appeared in numerous films, as well as the HBO series "Mind of the Married Man". LEO FITZPATRICK -- Leo was the star of Larry Clark's controversial film Kids. He also appeared in Storytelling and the HBO series "The Wire". DAVID PATRICK KELLY -- DP's renowned roles range from The Warriors (he said "Warriors, come out and play") to "Twin Peaks", The Crow and The Longest Yard. TOM GUIRY -- Tom starred in Black Hawk Down. Other memorable films include The Sandlot, Lassie, and Mystic River. He starred in the series "The Black Donnellys". SHOSHANNAH STERN - Shoshannah is the most popular young deaf actor in the world, and is well-known from being a regular on both "Jericho" and "Weeds".
Televised Broadcasts: HDNet -- 3/1/2004 - 2/28/2007
