Exhibition of 500 books in 23 languages dealing with Croatian language, part 1

The National and University Library in Zagreb organized an exhibition titled Croatian Language in the Gutenberg Galaxy, in main hall of the National and University Library in Zagreb, in December 2008.

The exhibition was made possible due to engagement of:
Professor Tihomil Maštrović, Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb
Professor Aleksa Bjeliš, Rector of the University of Zagreb
Professor Krešimir Bagić, Head of the Zagreb School of Slavic Studies
Assistant Professor Ivana Vidović Bolt, Author of the exhibition

Headed by Assistant Professor Ivana Vidović Bolt, the exhibition was organized by the Zagreb School of Slavic Studies, under the patronage of the University of Zagreb. It brought around 500 titles of translation of Croatian fiction and assorted titles from the field of humanities in 23 languages.

The exhibition was previously shown in Dubrovnik, during the 37th Seminar of the Zagreb School of Slavic Studies, in August 2008, and at the Vienna Book Fair, in November 2008.

The exhibition consisted of four thematic parts:

1. Croatian literature: translations of Croatian prose, poetry and drama into foreign languages, as well as anthologies etc.

2. Croatistics (Croatian Studies) in the world: various editions of foreign croatists (foreign experts in lignuistics, history of literature, culturology etc., studing Croatian language, history and culture)

3. Croatian scientific and professional literature, books by Croatian experts translated into various languages

4. Croatian literature published in various languages in Croatia itself
