THE LAUNCH OF THE CROATIAN CENTRE FOR GLOBAL HEALTH
The Croatian Centre for Global Health has recently been founded at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Split, Croatia. Its co-founders, Professor Ana Marusic and Professor Igor Rudan, are both hoping that the Centre will help to re-integrate Croatian biomedical science into global trends, improve its international visibility, and help their nation to respond to challenges for health policy formulation and development in the time of globalization. Professor Ana Marusic is the editor-in-chief of Croatian Medical Journal and the President of the International Council of Science Editors, while Professor Igor Rudan is a consultant of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Global Forum for Health Research and the co-ordinator of several ongoing international research projects. The new Centre will include the Departments for International Scientific Communication, International Health Policy, Large Population Studies, Eco-genetics and the first regional link to international Cochrane collaboration. The Center already developed strong international links with the Johns Hopkins University, Universities of Toronto and Edinburgh, and Medical Research Council in Cape Town.
OSNOVAN HRVATSKI CENTAR ZA GLOBALNO ZDRAVLJEU Splitu je 14.02.2008. na redovnoj sjednici Fakultetskog vijeca Medicinskog fakulteta donijeta odluka o osnivanju "Hrvatskog centra za globalno zdravlje", koji ce raditi kao znanstveni centar u sklopu Medicinskog fakulteta u Splitu. Za predsjednicu upravnog odbora izabrana je prof. dr. sc. Ana Marusic, a za voditelja centra prof. dr. sc. Igor Rudan. Glavna zadaca centra bit ce ukljucivanje hrvatske biomedicinske znanosti i medicinske struke u globalne trendove i odgovor na izazove koje pred formuliranje zdravstvene politike stanovnistva donosi novo doba opce globalizacije.
Namjera osnivaca prof. dr. Ane Marusic i prof. dr. Igora Rudana je stvaranje vrhunske znanstvene institucije u Hrvatskoj koja ce postati srediste medjunarodne suradnje i komunikacije izmedju Hrvatske i svijeta u biomedicinskim znanostima i medicinskoj struci, posebno u podrucju javnog zdravstva i zdravstvene politike. Hrvatski centar za globalno zdravlje ustrojen je u 5 radnih grupa: Odjel za medjunarodno znanstveno komuniciranje, Odjel za Cochrane kolaboraciju, Odjel za medjunarodnu zdravstvenu politiku, Odjel za velike populacijske studije i Odjel za ekogenetiku.
Hrvatski centar za globalno zdravlje financirat ce se iskljucivo iz znanstvenih projekata koje na medjunarodnim natjecajima namaknu njegovi djelatnici, koji su u pravilu uposlenici Medicinskog fakulteta u Splitu. Za djelatnost centra vec su osigurani medjunarodni projekti u suradnji sa Svjetskom zdravstvenom organizacijom i UNICEF-om, Svjetskom bankom, 'Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative' organizacijom, te Medical Research Council-om Velike Britanije. Uspostavljena je i cvrsta medjunarodna suradnja sa Sveucilistima u Torontu, Baltimore-u, Edinburghu i Cape Town-u.
