John Kruth and I are producing a show called Tin Supreme: Homage to Tin Ujevic at the Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery in Manhattan) on Saturday April 21, 2007 at 6 PM.
We were introduced to Ujevic's poetry while visiting Split two summers ago and were stunned. The writing is so powerful! If Ujevic wrote in French or Spanish he would be world famous. This is our attempt to introduce his work to an English speaking audience. TIN SUPREME will be a cross-cultural program. Ujevic's poetry will be read in Croatian and English. Music will be provided by John Kruth, who will sing songs written and inspired by our travels in Croatia and by Panonian Wave, a band that plays original and traditional compositions in a Croatian folk-roots style. Poets who will read Ujevic's work include Anne Waldman, John S. Hall, Vicki Hudspith and Carla Bosnjak.
Pavo Majic will be coming from Split to exhibt his work at the Bowery Poetry Club Art Wall as part of the Tin Ujevic event. The ad is based on Majic's graphic of Ujevic and he will exhibit his images of other poets, both American and Croatian. This particular exhibit has also been shown in Zagreb and Berlin.
I hope you can make it!
