Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and the president Stjepan Mesic
President Stjepan Mesic and other senior Croatian officials, including several members of parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and some other ministers, as well as ambassadors of the United States, the Russian Federation, India and Japan, attended the Croatian premiere of former US President Al Gore's documentary film about global warming "An Inconvenient Truth", in Zagreb on 15 February 2007.
"The film should be broadcast also by the HRT (Croatian public broadcasting corporation), so that it can be shown in every Croatian home and educate Croatian citizens about dangerous challenges of global warming," Croatian President said after the premiere in the CineStar centre in Zagreb.
Describing the message of the film as strong Mesic said that "everybody can contribute to the prevention of the further warming of the Planet". Mesic also announced that he was going to propose the replacement of electric bulbs in his Office by energy saving lightbulbs.
He agrees also with proposals about launching an initiative for reducing tax obligations of those who buy environmentally friendly products.
Mesic admitted that there was not enough political will in Croatia to deal with challenges of global warming, and concluded that more actions can and must be taken in that field.
