Yachts and hot Croatia

Wednesday, 05 Apr 2006 10:43

Croatia is one of Europe's up-and-coming tourist destinations, as visitors increasingly seek to take advantage of its red-hot summers and value for money living.

While there are bundles of cheap, more traditional holidays to pick up in the country, there is an alternative, swash-buckling way of enjoying Croatia's verdant beauty - that of a yacht race.

Those who fancy themselves as something of an Ellen Macarthur can now charter their own yacht to take part in the Croatia Yacht Rally.

The legendary sailing event takes place between 9th and 27th of June, and the yachts set sail from Split, working their way along the Adriatic coast to Dubrovnik.

Sunsail is teaming up with Mariner Boating to provide 13 days' bareboat yacht charter, six post-race functions including dinners, a cocktail party on arrival, as well as overnight accommodation in Biograd and Dubrovnik.

Prices for the adventure also include air fares and marina costs.

People participating in the event can either treat it as a race, or as more leisurely sea-faring break by just lying back on top deck, soaking up the sun and floating along to their final destination.

You do not need to be a hard-bitten sailor either, to take part, as Sunsail allows you to join the race as part of a flotilla, which gives you an experienced crew, while travelling in groups of other yachts means you can choose to be sociable or just do your own thing.
