Croatia's prominent architect is dead

ZAGREB, Croatia - Andre Mohorovicic, Croatia's prominent architect whose work led to the discovery of the remnants of ancient cities across Croatia, has died, the Academy of Science and Arts announced Wednesday. He was 89. 

Mohorovicic died on Tuesday of a heart disease. 

Mohorovicic graduated at Zagreb's university and later specialized in architecture in the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy. He was the chief editor of Croatia's Encyclopedia of Arts. 

He wrote more than 100 books on the theory of architecture and urbanism, but he also led field studies resulting in thediscovery and preservation of ancient cities here.
