Dear Croatian American Friends, In January 1992, following a heroic war for freedom and democracy, the world recognized the independence of the Republic of Croatia. On JANUARY 19th, 2002, the Croatian American community will hold a HOLY MASS at the Croatian Catholic Church in Los Angeles in honor of this historic event. Following Mass, we will celebrate the 10th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RECOGNITION OF THE CROATIAN STATE with a GALA BANQUET in the Parish Hall. The guns in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are now silent, and Croatia is an independent nation. But when you join us on January 19th, you will hear firsthand from our honored guests GENERAL KRESIMIR COSIC, HDZ VP MAJA FREUNDIC and DR. JOSIP MUSELIMOVIC that the Croatian people's hard fought independence is not secure. They will tell you that the Croatian people's existence as one of the constituent nations of BiH is endangered. On January 19th, our guests will speak frankly about recent events in BiH. They will tell you how your assistance can ensure that the independence and the existence of the Catholic Croatian nation in BiH will not be lost. On January 19th, you will hear that there is hope. In large part, the future of Croatia and the fate of Croatian nation in BiH will depend upon the actions of the United States of America. If we stand together, we can insure that that our government in Washington is fair to Croatia and the Croats of BiH. In our advocacy of the Croatian cause, we must not allow the liberation of Croatian territory to be cast as a criminal act. We must do all in our power to help those who defended Croatia in her time of need. We must oppose those in the international community who wish to rewrite history. Together, we must look to the future for a better life for the Croatian people. But that better life for the Croatian people will remain in jeopardy if Croatia's independence is compromised and if Croats no longer exist as one of the constituent nations of BiH. This new year, please join the CAA and our honored guests to defend the course that the Croats of the world set upon over a decade ago: An independent and prosperous Croatia, along with constituent national people's status for the Croats of BiH.
