Tips and practice with a world ranked player

Aandrej Gacina

This weekend the Westchester TTC is proud to welcome one of the top table tennis players in the world, Croatia's Andrej Gacina.

Gacina is world-ranked #20 by the ITTF. He is five-time national champion of Croatia, a medalist at two European championships, and a three-time Olympian. He'll play in the open event on Sunday, starting at 2 pm -- competing for the grand prize of $1,500.

As usual, the entry fee for the open is $65. But for this month only the fee is reduced to $55 for any player with a USATT rating under 2500, and to $45 for anyone rated under 2400.

Altogether the tournament has 18 events with more than $5,000 in prizes. Cash is awarded in every event. Newcomers are welcome. The full list of events, with the schedule, appears below. Details, with a link to the registration form, appear here.

Special events this month (all played on Saturday) are:

  • 14 Years & Under
  • 40 & Over
  • Doubles U3200 -- in which the combined ratings of the two players must be under 3200
  • Handicap -- in which the higher-rated player is handicapped by 1 point for every 75-point rating difference over the lower-rated player, up to a maximum of 7 points per game

Spectators are free on Saturday. On Sunday the cost is $10 to watch, or free for a child accompanying a paid adult. A six-tournament spectator pass is available for $40.

[Special:] Andrej Gacina Training Clinic On Friday evening, before the tournament starts, Gacina will conduct two 90-minute training sessions at the club -- 4:30-6:00 and 7:00-8:30. The cost is $50/session. Gacina will personally evaluate and offer tips on everyone's play. And everyone will get to play briefly with Gacina himself. Space is limited, so sign up as early as you can.

Hope to see you this weekend!
