Clapton’s favorite drummer with whom he recorded eleven albums – along with seven with Chick Corea, seven with Paul Simon, eight with George Benson, eight with Al Di Meola, four with Al Jarreau, two with Paul McCartney as well as one with James Brown (‘Black Caesar’), Patti Austin (‘End of a rainbow’), B.B. King (‘Riding with the King’) and Charles Mingus (‘Me, Myself An Eye’) – was announced as Headliner at this year’s 10th Annual Croatia Drum Camp in Groznjan, Croatia, often labeled a ‘Leading Drum & Percussion Summer Camp in Europe.
This is Gadd’s first visit to Croatia.
10th Annual Croatia Drum Camp International Percussion Summer Courses taking place in Groznjan, a medieval ‘artist-town’ situated in the Croatian region of Istria, in the Northern Adriatic will happen in the period August 1st-10th. This ten-day-event, dedicated to the Art of drumming and promoting drummers as musical artists, includes a series of drum-clinics, seminars, masterclasses, concerts and VIP appearances from music industry executives.
In addition to Gadd, who is generally considered to be the World’s Greatest Living Drummer (and recently received a Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music), this year’s Croatia Drum Camp will also feature a number of GRAMMY Award-winning drummers such as Horacio ‘El Negro’ Hernandez from Cuba (also a Berklee Honorary Doctorate holder, and winner of nine Grammys for playing on Santana’s Supernatural’ album); legendary jazz-drums professor John Riley from the Manhattan School of Music in New York (teacher for Ari Hoenig, Mark Giuliana, Bill Stewart, Marcus Baylor); British multi-percussion extraordinaire Pete Lockett voted ‘Best World-Percussionist’ in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and ‘Percussionist of the Year’ in 2015; as well as Claus Hessler (Germany’s drumming rising star) and Croatia’s own Petar Ćurić, founder and artistic director of this well-received and widely celebrated drumming educational event. Here’s what Petar told us in a telephone-conversation yesterday:
“One could say CDC 10 is now sold out, but the truth is we actually sold out like two months ago…!! Honestly, we have never received this many enquiries from students and prospective participants, and the number of registered participants is a record-breaking experience for us this year. Our students come from more than thirty countries worldwide. Naturally, majority of our participants are from the EU countries, but we have also seen a growing number from overseas (Australia, North America, New Zealand and, as of this year, India!).They are all of mixed ages and technical levels which was our goal to begin with. For, we never wanted to discriminate, but rather to hold the door wide-open to drummers of all ages, all levels and all musical styles! – says Petar Curic, the CDC Founding Director.
