Daniel Čačija, Croatian jazz singer, will interpret famous songs of Ivo Robić,
5 May 2013, in the Vatroslav Lisinski Small Concert Hall in Zagreb

90 godina Ive Robića

HGM (Hrvatska glazbena mladež) s ponosom predstavlja koncert glazbe Ive Robića, velikog hrvatskog pjevača i skladatelja.

90 years of Ivo Robić

HGM (Croatian Music Youth) is proud to announce a concert of music by
Ivo Robić. This phenomenal musician received worldwide acclaim for his compositions, including the iconic Frank Sinatra melody ‘Strangers in the Night'. On the evening of Sunday 5th May at the Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb, the HGM Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to Ivo Robić through new arrangements of his songs which already have been immortalized on a set of four albums ‘HGM Plays Ivo Robić'. Conducted by the artistic director Sigi Feigl, freshly arranged by Pavel Klimashevsky who arranged already for the WDR Big Band, the HR Big Band and the philharmonic orchestra in Moskau, and sung by the Croatian baritone Daniel Čačija, this concert marks a momentous uniting of Croatian talent.

Daniel was recently selected as the winner of the Downbeat Music Award 2013 as the best jazz vocal soloist. Singers all around the world are applying for this award. Studying for his Masters degree at the Kunstuniversität Graz, Daniel is Croatia's first and only jazz singer to study to such a high level. He has accumulated numerous prestigious awards despite not yet leaving full time education; these include the European Broadcast Jazz Competition 2011 and the winner of the ‘Best Male Jazz Baritone' in Austria. In addition, he is gaining popularity in the Baltic states performing at festivals such as Rigas Ritmi being the most prestigious jazz event in the Baltic states. Daniel is already at the start of an international career singing in the National Jazz Orchestra of Germany that performs in South Africa, Japan, Canada, USA and all around Europe. You can catch Daniel performing as well at the Grožnjan Jazzfestival 2013 to mark Croatia's imminent EU membership.

It is easy to say that Ivo Robić would be proud to have such a singer give life to his extraordinary music. Don't miss this exhilarating uniting of Croatian talent, past and present.

This track is recorded at the KUG Studios in Graz/Austria. Originally we were inspired by the arrangement of the great Dena DeRose.
Still we added some of our stuff. The recording is a rough mix, no editing at all. Enjoy the take of the award-winning Daniel Čačija Band.

The Concert [2011]

The BCS are delighted to announce that Daniel Cacija, an up-and-coming baritone in the jazz world, will be performing with his jazz quartet here in London. Fresh from the Graz Jazz Music Academy in Austria, these musicians are the best of the new generation of jazz artists. They are an award-winning, high-quality, jazz quartet who have done numerous tours of Croatia, Austria, Germany and France to much acclaim.

Daniel is a captivating and charismatic performer with an exceptional vocal talent and he has recently been selected to represent Croatia in the European Union Jazz Competition 2011.

The Cause

The aim of this concert is to raise funds for music therapist Dean Cacija who is instigating Life Music: a humanitarian project that uses Music Therapy as an intervention for people suffering from severe, psychological war-related traumas in Croatia. Dean came to London near the start of the financial recession to receive specialist training as a music therapist on the Master’s degree programme at The Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Centre. A few months into his training, his sponsorship and funding from the Croatian Government and other organisations ceased due to the severity with which the financial recession hit Croatia’s economy. Through the generos- ity of friends, Dean has continued his studies, but at great financial debt. These financial set backs have inevitably hindered the commencement of Dean’s pioneering music therapy projects in Croatia. By raising money for Dean we are not just helping his story, but we know that we are ultimately enabling people with debilitating war traumas to have access to the psychological support that they require to lead a life free from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If you are unable to attend this concert, the BCS would like to give you the opportunity to contribute to this cause. Donations can be made by cheque made payable to the British-Croatian Society and sent to:
