On Saturday, May 2nd 2009, the Red Bull Paper Wings World Finals - Paper Plane World Championship was held in Salzburg, Austria.



Jovica Kozlica, a 26-years old student from Split, Croatia was the only champion from 2006 who defended his title again in 2009. Once again, he won the first place in the Longest Distance category with a throw of 54.43 metres, proving that Croats aren't just good at building ships, but also at aerodynamics.

As many as 253 competitors participated at the World Championship in Salzburg from 85 countries. And as many as 37.017 competitors participated in the qualifications in 613 tournaments in order to qualify for the World Championship.

Jovica Piplica had the honour to receive the gold medal, and the adornment was accompanied with the melody of the Croatian national anthem.

Jovica Kozlica (CRO) was the only champion from 2006 able to defend his title in 2009 .

Lives in Salzburg, but also owns Laucala Island, off Fiji. Brilliant in marketing and business, he holds 49 percent of shares in the energy drink producer Red Bull, which is sponsoring Paper Wings Competitions and the current world champion in surfing Sofia Mulanovich, Peruvian of Croatian descent.
