IN MEMORIAM

(BORIS DVORNIK, SPLIT 16. TRAVNJA 1939- SPLIT, 23.OŽUJKA 2008)

NA SCENI I U ŽIVOTU-UVIJEK SAMO BORIS

Uz Miljenka Smoju, Ivu Tijardovića, uz Zdenka Runjića, Gorana Ivaniševića i još nekolicinu uglednika - Boris Dvornik je nedvojbeno simbol grada pod Marjanom.

No, sva ta teorijska polazišta padaju u vodu kada se želi ocrtati glumački lik Borisa Dvornika.

I SUZE I SMIJEH

On je nedvojbeno uz Miljenka Smoju, Ivu Tijardovića, uz Zdenka Runjića, Gorana Ivaniševića i još nekolicinu uglednika - simbol grada pod Marjanom.

Uvijek sam imala neku intuiciju, znala sam odabrati. Uvijek sklad, ljubav i tolerancija, strpljenje, mudrost. Ljubav nije žrtva. Kad se voli to je sreća, nije ništa teško, dapače. Boris je neobično brižan, o svemu vodi računa. Zahvaljujući njemu nisam osjetila težinu života..."

KARIZMA

ON SCENE AND IN LIFE - ALWAYS JUST BORIS

Boris Dvornik, together with Miljenko Smoje, Ivo Tijardović, Zdenko Runjić, Goran Ivanišević, Toni Kukoč and some other notabilities, is a symbol of Split. Citizens of Split always accepted him as a common citizen. He never lived his fictional acting lives outside the scene, as many other actors did. Simplicity is what made him great and small…

By GORAN PELAIĆ

There is an unwritten rule which says that actors always bond with the roles that made them famous, roles that people remember. With Boris Dvornik it was different since the very beginning, because he was a different person and different actor. No other artist from Split was so equalized with its hometown as much as Boris. Split was his true and natural stage. And Split wouldn't be what it is now if it weren't for Boris.

Wherever we start, we'll get to the same point: Boris Dvornik is one of the greatest and most talented Croatian actors - actor who participated in most movies, TV serials and plays…

But, when you talk or think about an actor and his appearance on scene, when you assess his skills, when you talk about the complexity of the role, about the invisible fluid which flows between the actor and the audience, then you think about the actor's plunge in the role. And Boris Dvornik was doubtlessly great at it. But, all this theory loses its sense when you try to describe acting character of Boris Dvornik. The audience never experienced him as Bokčilo, Meštar or Roko Prc… He was always just Boris.

His art of simplicity -  to act as any other common man would - is a unique case in history of Croatian theatre. Every actor is expected to act someone and to enter other people's lives, but with Boris Dvornik you were never sure if he was acting or simply started to talk passingly…

TEARS AND LAUGH

That's why he was not just unique, but exceptional too. That was visible from the start, from his first movie "Deveti krug", in which he showed his acting capabilities, till famous TV serials Malo and Velo misto, in which he outlined the time and the character, giving the creations that will be remembered forever. And what about his impressive roles in Roko and Cicibela, Hamlet in Mrduša Donja, Šjora File… He was perfect for acting characters that were in the same time comic and tragic - with him it was pleasure to laugh and to cry at the same time. No one ever managed to flirt so closely with Dalmatian and Mediterranean charm and art as much as he did. So it's not odd that this ordinary man is compared to Saint Duje, Diocletian's Palace… to Split!

Simplicity is what made him big and small.

He was always running away from publicity. An interview was the worst thing that could happened to him. He seemed as a rough man. But just seemed. He was best described by his wife Dijana:

- "My marriage is very good. I met Boris when I was 15;, when I was 18 I gave birth to Dean, and 18 months after, Dino, our second son, was born. I've always had an intuition, I've always known what to choose. Harmony, love, toleration, patience, wisdom. Love is not sacrifice. When you love somebody, nothing is hard. Boris is a very caring person. Thanks to him, I've never experienced how hard tough life can be…"

CHARISMA

Dvornik was an amusing man, and he was very emotional; a man who was able to feel the sufferings and destinies of others. That was visible even while he was acting. That's the charisma that glows around him - a mix of warmth and authority.

Of course, his great talent was awarded by many prizes: Golden Arenas for roles in movies "Povratak", Grand Prix on the Festival of Acting in Niš for the movies "Kad čuješ zvona" and "U gori raste zelen bor", award Slavica for his contribution to Croatian art, Zlatni smijeh for the role of Paron Furte in comedy "Ribarske svađe" ---

Last few years he was not very active because of problems with health.

Leave of Boris Dvornik is the leave of one of most appreciable symbols of Split.
