Domagoj Ivanovic

Domagoj Ivanovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia where he began studying violin at the age of seven. During his studies he was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards in violin competitions at the national and international level, the most important being First Prize in the National Violin competition (1996) and First Prize in the National Chamber Music competition (1997). He received his Bachelors degree in violin performance in 2001 from the Music Academy in Zagreb.

Mr. Ivanovic appeared as a soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic orchestra, performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto and with the Miami Symphony orchestra, performing Beethovens Romanze in F major and Vivaldi's Winter. Described as a player with clear technique and great sensitivity by El Nuevo Herald, he has performed in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, France, Spain, Hungary, Canada, and the United States. In 2003 he received his Masters degree from the University of Miami Frost School of Music in the studio of Robert Rozek.

During his education he has also worked with such renowned teachers as S. Kuzmin, G. Zhislin, A. Kouchner, A. Kiss, K . Maetzel, and S. Chepaitis. In addition to serving as an Assistant Concertmaster for the Miami Symphony Orchestra (2003-2006), Mr. Ivanovic has just completed his studies at the University of Miami, graduating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance in the studio of Scott Flavin.

His playing can be heard on the Croatian National Radio, as well as in the University of Miami's production of Luigi Mancinelli's Paolo et Francesca, released by Albany Records in 2005. Also, as a former member of the Ibis Camerata, he can be heard on a new album released by Albany records in 2006 titled Glisten, featuring new music composed by the University of Miami Faculty composers.

Although he enjoys performing both as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles, he takes great interest in teaching. One of his biggest teaching interests is to teach the importance of proper posture and use of body mechanics in order to avoid tension and playing injuries by applying the principles of Alexander Technique, as well as teaching students to excel their technique by increasing the awareness of use and misuse of their bodies

He currently resides in Vancouver, Canada with his wife, Melina.
