Competition in Croatian football has spread to a new areas, with clubs showing an increased interest in improving their presence on the internet.

New website
While most local clubs have already launched their own official websites, the battle is on to become the best. The Croatian Football Federation set the pace with the launch of their new-look site at www.hns-cff.hr, and champions NK Dinamo Zagreb have now raised their game in cyberspace. The clubs website relaunch coincided with a 2-1 win against arch-rivals HNK Hajduk Split, and the new-look www.nk-dinamo.hr now boasts tons of new content, including regular columns from executive vice-president Zdravko Mamić and the girlfriend of new defender Gordon Schildenfeld, Ivana Škugor.

Revealing column
Škugor shed light on her partner's decision to choose to join Dinamo over Hajduk this winter, saying: "He asked me for my opinion before he choose Dinamo. I told him to go where he thought he would play regularly. He said: 'At Hajduk I would be guaranteed a place but at Dinamo I would have to battle every second for a spot in the team. I don't hate Hajduk, I love Dinamo.' Then it became clear."

Favourite players
Website users have been particularly excited by the new profiles of the Dinamo players which include all manner of interesting and surprising information. Brazilian-born striker Eduardo da Silva discussed his heroes, saying: "My all-time top player is Romário. The best current player is Ronaldinho." Meanwhile, team captain Zoran Mamić revealed that he was the owner of a dog named Figo, while young star Luka Modrić admitted that his favourite menu would comprise pizza and cola. Cameroonian star Mathias Chago admitted that he was a fan of the traditional Croatian vegetable stew, sataraš.

Culture vultures
While footballers tend to enjoy spending spare time in discos and bars, Hrvoje Cale and Schildenfeld both said that they enjoyed trips to the theatre. However, when it came to taste in cinema, the squad were clearly fans of action films, naming Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Bruce Willis as their top stars. Dinamo have certainly raised their game on the internet, but HNK Cibalia are preparing to match them, announcing that from Saturday they will be the first local club to feature live audio coverage of their league games at www.hnk-cibalia.hr. The battle for supremacy on the Croatian internet has begun.
