Vlasic leaps 2.03m to equal world season lead

Sunday 2 July 2006
Somosko, Hungary - The 20th international High Jump meeting which was staged in the square of this Hungarian town on Saturday night (01), was re-christened this year as the “Istvan Gyulai Memorial Competition”, paying respect to the late General Secretary of the IAAF, Istvan Gyulai (HUN) who died last March.

The highlight of the evening was the world season equalling jump by Blanka Valsic of Croatia. The World Indoor silver medallist leapt 2.03m to match Bulgarian Venelina Veneva’s 2006 best (13 June), and at the same time improve the meeting record of 2.01m which has been held since 1996 by the now retired World record holder Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria.
