(E) First Congress of Croatian Scientists

The First Congress of Croatian Scientists

Friends,

The First Congress of Croatian Scientists will take place in Zagreb and
Vukovar from the 15th to the 19th of November, 2004. The Congress is
organized by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The
organizers tell us that, the main goal of the Congress is to create an
opportunity for the scientist of Croatian heritage who live and work
throughout the world to meet with their colleagues in the homeland, so
that they can use the occasion to give guidelines to scientific and
economic development in Croatia.

I have been invited to participate in the Social Sciences Section of the
Congress, but I will not be able to do so. The Congress is taking place
an entire week, Thanksgiving is a week after, and I will be in Boston
for the annual Slavic Congress at the end of November, thus it is
impossible to leave the classroom for so many days. However, I am
planning to send in writing a few of my thoughts, observations, and
suggestion to the Congress. Before I do so, I thought it would be good
to hear from all of you (outside the homeland) who have experiences
(positive or negative or) or suggestions that might be relevant to the
goals of the Congress.

Please be to the point and respond by September 30, 2004.

Regards to all.
