Croatian troupe regales audience in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Music not only transcends languages and borders but also helps in unifying people belonging to different race and culture.

A classic example to this may be the rendition by a guitar troupe from Croatia at the temple town of Orissa.

The performances by the Zagreb Guitar Quartet mesmerized the audiences. Apart from the traditional Croatian folk numbers, compositions by 17th century German maestro Johann Sebastian Bach and Spanish Gypsy music were widely appreciated by the assembled spectators.

Though the music was incomprehensible to almost everybody in the audience, yet it strummed many a strings several hearts

The artists themselves were very much touched by the warmth and receptiveness of the audience.

" I liked very much the audience. I think they liked our music and we felt their energy," said Milita, one of the artists.

Officials are also very pleased at the increasing cultural exchange taking place and are of the opinion that such exchanges will encourage local tourists to perform abroad as well.

" This is cultural exchange. Orissa is very rich in art and culture. The Indian council of cultural relation and the department of culture Orissa government jointly organised this. The troupe is from abroad and the people of Orissa should enjoy the benefits. It will encourage our artists," said Damodar Rout, Culture Minister. (ANI)
