FRODDO story connecting Croatia and Canada

Best friends since childhood, Iva and Doris started Zagy Shoe Shop (Zagy being derived from the name of Zagreb) with the mission of offering Canadian toddlers and preschoolers the highest quality shoe for the development of healthy and happy feet. The idea of bringing FRODDO shoes to Canada was born when Iva’s daughter made her first steps. Iva searched for baby shoes made from leather with ergonomically shaped insoles and attractive design but choices were limited.

While visiting her parents in Croatia she came across a FRODDO store and was thrilled by the shoe quality and variety of models and colours they offered.  Upon her return to Canada she mentioned the idea to her friend Doris. The two got together with the manufacturer in Croatia who has been producing quality kids shoes for the last 70 years. The first order arrived to Canada in March 2015. Ivančica

Ivančica (in Croatian - Daisy) was established as a small business made up of a group of shoemakers. Through mutual assistance, updating our knowledge and hard work, we have become a company with over one thousand employees – today a leading footwear manufacturer in Croatia. We have grown in size, but the spirit of initial enthusiasm and solidarity has remained the same – from as far back as 1946.

Ivančica produces 5,000 pairs of shoes a day (or more than a million pairs of shoes per year). Since a man takes an average of 18,000 steps a day, and a child even more, we believe that each of these steps is our responsibility, but also our reward.

We are a responsible company, we offer our customers a product that meets health and safety standards and that is controlled at all stages of the production process. Every shoe that we offer on the market is produced in an environmentally friendly way without any harmful substances and compounds such as Chromium (VI). In addition, in the manufacture of our footwear we use exclusively water-based adhesives. We produce shoes that care about the environment, as well as the health of children.
Brand values

Every foot, just like every child, is different. We know that. And this is why we find beauty in the development and production of our shoes. By choosing an individual approach we promise to create according to the wishes of children and parents, and to approach every child in a special way, thus making them happier and more confident.

Quality certificates and awards

In July 2010 we introduced a quality management system in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 certificate, which guarantees the customer the highest possible level of product quality and services in footwear production, wholesale and retail.

We also hold the ISO 14001:2004 certificate, environmental management system. This certificate is proof of how we care about how the impact of production activities are to be controlled to the maximum and to affect the environment in the least possible way.

In our business we use the SAP ERP business information system. The SAP business system contributes to the optimisation of business processes – facilitates the connection of processes and communication in order to achieve optimal effects in all parts of the business – and especially the quality of the product.

We as Ivančica d.d. (Ltd.) and the Froddo brand have received numerous awards and recognitions for our quality and design. The quality of Froddo shoes has been recognised and evaluated by experts and consumers, and so it was awarded the status of Superbrand in 2009 and 2010.

In 2012 we received the Superbrands Croatia's Choice award. This selection uses standardised criteria that are applied in more than ninety countries worldwide. Quality, reliability, distinctiveness, and an emotional charge are important factors in the selection process, and a new additional criterion was introduced, that of environmental responsibility.

One of the most significant awards is without doubt the Gold Medal for the functionality of Froddo products that we received in September 2010 during the BTS Fair in Poznan, Poland, and the Golden Key Awards in the category of best exporter to Austria in 2008 and 2009.

In 2014 we received the award given by the Association of Croatian Exporters – the Platinum Key, as a special recognition to the best exporters who have proven continuity in excellence over the past six years of the awarded Golden Key.

Our story

A fulfilled childhood has nothing to do with cleanliness, obedience or listening to your mum who hassles you to eat the whole apple. A happy child is a little playful child who has the freedom to enjoy a game with his friends, to discover how much sand will fit in the hole next to the tree, how many worms can fit into a small cup or how fast can he eat a whole chocolate bar. No child is the same just as no foot is the same. We celebrate this diversity, we celebrate it and we do not want to practice the one-size-fits-all approach among children because in this way all the beauty is lost. We want to make children feel as if this individual shoe, boot, sandal or trainer is made just for them - for James, Alex, Frieda, Lota, Phillip or Petra. Children who grow up freely are not only happier, but they also leave distinct footprints.

Ivančica was established as a small business made up of a group of shoemakers. Through mutual assistance, updating our knowledge and hard work, we have become a company with over one thousand employees – today a leading footwear manufacturer in Croatia.
