  Petrit Ceku (right) and Srdjan Bulat (left) took first and third places respectively for Croatia at the inaugural International Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini in Bologna, Italy. The competition was held from October 10-16, 2011 and was organized in memory of Maurizio Biasini, a physicist of international stature as well as an outstanding classical guitarist.

The first edition of the International Classical Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini will be held October 10–16, 2011 in Bologna, at the Villa Gandolfi Pallavicini.

The competition is organized in memory of Maurizio Biasini, a physicist of international stature as well as an outstanding classical guitarist.

Young, talented classical guitarists from all over the world are invited to participate in this important event, which foresees a concert with orchestra in the final round of the competition. The first prize is a cash award of € 12,000 and the opportunity to perform in two concerts (in Bologna and in Basel). The total value of cash prizes is € 20,000.

Numerous additional prizes, which include promotional material for the candidates, will be awarded. The Jury will be composed of eminent classical guitarists and musicians from the USA, Switzerland, Italy, and other European countries.

The competition is organized by the Association International Guitar Competition Maurizio Biasini in collaboration with the Fondazione Alma Mater of the University of Bologna. It takes place under the patronage of The City of Bologna and is part of the events of Bologna City of Music – UNESCO 2011. The Funding is provided by the Guth Biasini family and the CARISBO Foundation .
