KRAMAR

 

 

Kramar means shopkeeper, retailer, grocer or haberdasher. Name variations include Kramarich, Kramarec, Kramarcic and Kramarsic.

 

The Kramaric clan is very large in Croatia with the most families located at Budin, Bratina, Jurjevac, Osijek, Osojnin, Polonjc, Staro Petrovo Selo, Staro Selo, Stipernica, Sinkovica, Bednjanska, Velika Horvatska, Velika Jamnicka and Zagreb.

 

Arms were granted to Michael Kramaric on February 17, 1707 by King Joseph I of Austria.

 

The horizontal lines are blue; dots, gold; lines left, green; white is silver. The shield includes wheat and grapes.

 

The Arms are on file at Library Reg. XXVII, 258 in Zagreb.

 

Bob Kramarich late of Pennsylvania and in keeping with the meaning of the name as retailer-shopkeeper, made his fortune in booming San Francisco and was considered a tycoon amongst the local Croatian colony.
