ILIC---ELICH---ELLICH
Illic
is probably from Elia or son of Elia. Lika and Dalmatia have considerable
numbers of the llic clan. American llic's have used Elich-Ellich-llich
variations.
The
clan centers are Bilaj-Gospic, Bujanica-Pakrac, Busin-Pregrada, Dusin Metkovic,
Gospic-Karlovac, Osijek, Padjane, Knin-Sinac, Otocac, Split, Sveta
Katarlna-Pazin, Vid-Metkovich, Island of Vis and Zagreb.
The
color of arms are red for verticle lines, blue for horizontal lines, silver for
white.
Ilich
is of very old Croatian nobility that extended from the Island of Brac in
Dalmatia to Bosnia-Hercegovina in the 14th Century. They were part of the
Poljica Republic and were also known as Markovich and Simunovich.
Ilich's
were in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1853 and in Alabama with a coffee saloon in 1849.
John llich operated the Buckeye Saloon in San Jose, California in the 1860's
and the famed Jerry's Restaurant in Los Angeles in the 1870's. Elich's also had
a restaurant in Denver, Colorado in 1888. They were mining gold at Auburn,
Placer and Amador regions of California in the 1860's.
