DOMINIS-----GOSPODNETICH
Dominis
means Gospodnetich. Many Dominis' are found in Biograd, Sali, Split and the
Island of Brac, Dalmatia, Croatia. Almost all the Gospodnetich clan came from
Brac.
They
originated from the clan of Simrakovich in the noble house of Krstic from
Bosnia. Another branch of this Dominis clan was considered part of the ancient
nobility on the island of Rab.
John
Dominis was a whaling captain sailing out of Boston in the 1820's, 30's 40's
who later settled in Hawaii. He was the captain of the ship Bolivar and the
John Peabody. His son John O. Dominis, married a young Hawaiian girl of good
family. She became the Queen Liliuokalani, last queen of Hawaii. He was also
the governor of Oahu.
This
Dominis-Gospodnetich clan originated in Pucisce and Dol, Island of Brac in
Dalmatia and at the collapse of the Venetian Republic moved to Venice. Frank
Dominis had a saloon with Kosta at Sacramento, California in 1860 while others
were fisherman and into restaurants. Many Gospodnetich's were also part of
pioneer America.
