COKIC-----COKICH
Cokic
could come from Cokoce or vines and Cokor or vine branch. Almost the whole
Cokic clan comes from Meminska-Kostajnica in Croatia. Very small numbers are
found in other parts of the country.
The
Turk's head (dead) was used frequently in Croatian Arms. This designation was
given for valor is battle against the Ottoman Turks that invaded and occupied
all of the Balkans and parts of Croatia for approximately four hundred years.
Maria
Teresia granted nobility to Lieutenant George Cokich on March 1, 1751. Arms are
filed in the Zagreb Archives in Croatia.
Croatia
was almost bled to death by Austria and Hungary in their use of Croatian
manhood as soldiers to continuously fight the Turk on the "Frontiers of
Christianity". Christian Italy, France, Spain, Germany or England sent no
troops. They built churches, museums, universities and commerce on their own
territories while Croatia and Croatians defended Western Civilization. Times
have not changed.
