ADAMOVIC---ADAMOVICH

Adamovich or the son of Adam is found at Bobovac, Donji Miholjac, Janja Lipa, Rakitovica, Segestin and Zabreb in great numbers with 1000's more in all parts of Croatia.

Arms were granted on October 10, 1625 and again in Budapest in 1690. The Adamovich's of Slavonia were Barons and are probably the oldest nobility in Slavonia and Vojvodina with intermarriage in all noble families in those areas. They are related to Knezevich, Saich and Bencich. With the fortunes of time and war, one branch settled in Zabreb; another in Vienna; and another in Osijek by the 1930's. Historians speculate that the family originated from Bosnia.  The Turkish invasion of the Balkans disrupted forever the origins of Croatian people. While these great lords were ruling Slavonia, Giovanni Adamovich was a cook in San Francisco in 1878.
