Lana Genc was born on 21st October 1980 in Zagreb. She has been living in Samobor since her birth, where she also started her musical education playing piano at the age of eight. After finishing her Secondary Music School “Elly Bašić” in Zagreb, in the teacher’s Ivanka Brkanović class, she started to study piano at Music Academy in Zagreb in the professor’s Vladimir Krpan class. At the same time, she became a regular student of the “Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst” in Vienna in the class of professor Rudolf Kehrer. She graduated in Zagreb in 2001, and she is just finishing the study in Vienna. She started her postgraduate study at the Music Academy in Zagreb in the class of Lovro Pogorelić in autumn of 2004. She was the winner of the Rector’s award of the Zagreb University for academic year 1999/2000.

During her education she took part in numerous Croatian and international competitions for piano players where she won many awards. Her first CD, recorded in 1999, won a “Porin” in category for the best composition for Tonal sonata of Željko Brkanović.

Lana started performing very early. She has given many recitals and performances with leading Croatian orchestras like Zagreb's Philharmonic, Symphonic Orchestra of HRT, Dubrovnik's Orchestra, Zagreb's Soloists and many others. She gave recitals at Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Osor Music Evenings and in every bigger city in Croatia. She had a few successful tours in several Japanese cities from 1997 to 2001 when she performed in prestigious halls of Tokyo together with the leading Japanese orchestras and conductors. She also played in Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Russia and Cyprus. We would also like to emphasize her performances in Moscow at the “Days of Croatian Culture in Russia” and the performance with the Cantus Ensemble in Berlin at the “Days of Croatian Culture in Germany”. Last year in May she gave a very successful recital in Sofia on the international festival of classical music of the Bulgarian radio station “Classic FM”. Lana is also very active in the field of chamber music, where she had several noticed performances with piano player Goran Filipec, flute player Dani Bošnjak, and other young musicians, especially in quintet and trio of D. Šostakoviča.

During her education she was improving her knowledge at many prestigious seminars for piano players in Croatia, and especially abroad (Austria, Netherlands, Germany), where she has worked with great names of piano pedagogy and piano playing like Lazar Berman, Jorg Demus, Karl-Heinz Kammerling, Viktor Merzhanov and many others. Among numerous piano players she had a chance to improve her playing skills with, a special place belongs to David Lively, whose class she studied in Vienna in (1998-2001), and to Lovro Pogorelić, with whom she has a successful cooperation since autumn 2003.
