TOMIC--TOMICH

Tomic is probably from the very popular name Tomislav and takes many forms such as Toma, Tornac, Tomaic, Toman, Tornas, Tomasevic, Tomasic, Tomaskovic, Tomec, Tomek, Tornekovic, Tomicic and Tomic plus many other variations.

The name Tomic is found in Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina in such numbers that it is difficult to say which regions has the most of this large clan.

Color of Arms are blue for horizontal lines, red for verticle lines, gold for dots, silver for white.

Arms were granted in 1655 by King Ferdinand III to George, Martin, Nikola, Michael and Peter Tomich. The arms have a Turks head and probably indicated valor in battle.

Peter Tomich was granted the Medal of Honor for valor on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii while serving on the battleship Utah during the Japanese attack. This medal is unclaimed as the U.S. Navy could not find relatives of this sailor. Michael Tomich was a pioneer orchardist in Los Angeles, California in 1880.
