SMILJANIC-SMILANIC

Smiljanic name variations would be Smiljan, Smiljanec, Smiljanovic and have been recorded as Smoljan and Smoljanovic.

The Smiljanic clan is large with the majority living at Backovica, Doljani, Dubica, Gospic, Grabar, Kordunski Ljeskovac, Majar, Ostrovo, Pausinci, Pisac, Prokike, Stara Brezovica, Stari Gradac, Stari Skucani, Staro Petrovo Selo, Vrijeska Donja and Zagreb.

Mention was made in Venice on February 19, 1652 as a "Harambasa" Smiljanic in Dalmatia. Harambasa is a captain of pirates or robbers as the Venetians would rather put it. They were nobility of Nin and Zadar. The Venetians had one rule for the Harambasa-Croatians, cut off their heads.

The color of Arms are gold for the dots, silver for the white and blue for the horizontal lines.
