RADIC---RADICH

 

 

 

RADICH is another popular and common name found throughout Croatia but it also includes many famous and illustrious individuals who have distinguished themselves throughout history.

Radich, Radivoj, Radovich and Radovan probably all derive their name from the same root, meaning happy or merry.

 

Michael Radich, Duke of Senj, was awarded a Coat of Arms in 1600 for service in fighting the Turks. The original award is in the South Slav Academy in Zagreb, Croatia. Four other Radiches were also awarded Coats-of-Arms.

 

John Radich, a private in Cognovich's Company, 4th Regiment, European Brigade of the Louisiana Militia served in the Confederate Army of 1861. A Demitrio Radich died in New Orleans, Louisiana         in the 1830's and is recorded at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

Bozo Radich was a member of the Austrian Military Society in San Francisco, California in 1886. Frank Radich was mining gold on the Mariposa in 1860 and John Radich voted as an American citizen while mining gold on the El Dorado in 1875. Nikola Radich was in Amador, California mining gold in 1860 while Marian Radich was a pioneer member of the Croatian Sokol in California.
