MOROVIC--MOROVICH

 

The Morovic Clan is found at Filipjakov. Kukljica, Split, Vladislavci, Zagreb and Zman in Croatia. Most came from the Zadar and Sibenik area of Dalmatia.

 

Arms were first granted to Michael and Stefan Morovic in 1319 by King Andreas III. Information can be found in Budapest and Zagreb Archives. The Arms were also registered in the Srijem Committee of Nobility. Arms are red and Silver.

 

Namesakes in America: Joe Morovich was President of the Slavonian Illyric Society of San Francisco. This society organized in 1857. Joe was born in Zman, Dugi Otok, Dalmatia. John Morovich has studied, performed and taught Croatian song and dance in Washington state. John serves on the executive board of the Tamburitza Association of America and has been active in Croatian Fraternal Union activities. Tom Morovich, his wife and two children, lost their lives in the great hurricane of 1893 in Louisiana. Luke Morovich was a mariner in texas in 1870 and Mateo Morovich was an oysterman in Louisiana in 1900.
