LUKETIC-----LUKETICH

Luketich is found in all parts of Croatia in great numbers. The district of Ogulin and Karlovac are well represented. "Luk" means onion in Croatian. The name could also come from Luke or Luka. There are thousands of family names from Luk or Luch to Luksich

Coats of arms for Luketich were published in Vienna on December 30, 1764 and in Zagreb in 1766. The arms were granted to Nikola Luketich, an army major.

Luka Luketich, a private in Captain Cognevich's company, Louisiana Militia Volunteers Confederate Army of 1861, served at New Orleans with other "Slavonian" (Croatian)volunteers. No other reference is found of Luka in the South.
